Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I HAD BOUGHT SOME DIAPERS FROM WAL-MART IN A SIZE NEWBORN BEFORE MY BABY WAS BORN. WELL, HE WAS 11 POUNDS SO NEEDLESS TO SAY THEY DIDN'T FIT.

UPON RETURNING THEM,I FOUND OUT THAT SINCE I HAD NO RECEIPT,I HAD TO GET THE SAME EXACT DIAPERS IN A BIGGER SIZE.WELL,THAT'S ALL FINE AND GOOD,BUT THEY DIDN'T HAVE ANY.THESE WEREN'T CHEAP DIAPERS... THEY WERE HUGGIES, AROUND $12.00 PER PACK.

WHEN I WENT BACK AND TOLD THEM AT CUSTOMER SERVICE, THEY SAID THEY COULD GIVE ME A CREDIT OF $2.00 A PACK FOR A $12.00 PACK OF DIAPERS.I HAD 7 PACKS!!!!! THATS $14.00 CREDIT FOR $84.00 WORTH OF DIAPERS.

I TOLD THE LADY AT THE COUNTER I'D RATHER GIVE THEM AWAY THAN TO GIVE THEM TO WAL-MART, SO THEY COULD TURN AROUND AND SELL THEM FOR REGULAR PRICE.

ONLY GOD ABOVE KNEW MY SON WOULD BE SO BIG.WAL-MART USED TO GIVE CASH REFUNDS WITH OR WITHOUT RECEIPT.THEN IT WENT TO CASH WITH RECEIPT AND EXCHANGE WITHOUT. THEN, A GIFT CARD FOR NO RECEIPT. NOW THEY WANT TO GIVE YOU A GIFT CARD EVEN WITH A RECEIPT!!!!!

AS IF THE WALTONS AREN'T RICH ENOUGH... THEY'RE NOT GETTING MY MONEY. THEY ALREADY HAVE LOTS MORE THAN ME.

THESE GIFT CARDS ARE A WAY TO MAKE SURE YOU KEEP YOUR MONEY THERE. OH,BY THE WAY,IF YOU DO USE YOUR CARDAND SAY THERE'S ONLY75 CENTS LEFT ON IT, THEY DON'T OFFER IT BACK TO YOU.

I WONDER HOW MUCH MONEY THEY'VE MADE DOING THIS TO UNSUSPECTING CUSTOMERS.

Walmart promotes excellent customer service

Walmart constantly pushes all associates to provide excellent customer service. If you have a problem do not come to one of this type of sites to complain. Get some guts & call your store Manager about your complaints who's name & number are ALWAYS posted at or near the service desk . He or she is the only one who truly has the authority to help you ,not the cashier at the register or service desk . Just remember you must be justified in complaining & also polite.Do NOT tell him how much you hate Walmart or how stupid you think he or his employees are. Chances are you will be requested to leave the storeif you behave in this manner .Not only at Walmart but about anyplace where humans congregate, Walmart Associates following company policies are not being rude . They are protecting the company who gives them their paycheck so why may I ask would they risk their job by refunding money that they are not authorized to refund? Walmart has STRICT guidelines which the service desk personel are required to adhere to. Most of which are posted at the service desk for all to read. This includes returns without reciepts . There are times when we as associates cannot believe the condition of some of the items being returned as well as products purchased from other stored possibly months or years earlier. I'd like to know where all of these stores are which refund money so freely because most likely they are not still in business. Hmmm.... maybe KMART was on of them but ya know what I worked there & heard the same crap as I here about Walmart.Maybe we should all start treating each other with a little more respect rather than using the customer vs. slave attitude.

kmart has the same return policy just like walmart, but you have some customers that don't think so. they think that they could have went there without a receipt with no problem.

BE LUCKY YOU ARE NOT AT OUR WALMART WHERE I LIVE. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A RECEIPT, YOU GET THE LAST PRICE THAT THAT PRODUCT WAS ON SALE FOR. AS FOR THE CHECKOUT PROBLEM, I CAN RELATE. FOUR REGISTERS OPEN AND 100 CUSTOMERS, WHAT'S THAT ALL ABOUT? AND TRY TO FIND SOMEONE TO HELP YOU? THAT'S A JOKE ALL IN ITSELF. KMART WAS HURT WHEN THEY FIRST CAME TO OUR TOWN, BUT, SLOWLY BUT SURELY, I THINK KMART WILL DO OKAY.

Why do you keep attacking the all wal-mart employees?

#6UPDATE EX-employee responds

First of all not all employees are rude. I would go out my to make customers happy and I would do more than my fair share of customer service and I did it all with a smile. To Rosey who works at Target, I know people that work at target and you get paid more starting out than walmart cashiers do, and walmart only gives raises after you have been there for a certain time they will never come to you and give a raise in the middle of your evaluation time even if you deserve one. For me as a former walmart employee the most rude people I have ever had to deal with are cashiers in other stores not a walmart cashier or employee. And for everyone who wants to attack all walmart employees are you saying you never encountered a nice employee? If you haven't maybe it's not the walmart employees maybe it's you.

I bent over backwards for my employees and my customers

#7UPDATE EX-employee responds

Ok, I worked in a supermarket for 8 years+ and my job as a cashier and CSM was to please our customers. Something marked wrong, customer still gets it for the lower price, but them we correct the problem. I bent over backwards for my employees and my customers. Everyone got breaks and lunches on time, No one ever was to work off the clock. Customers we treated with the same respect. No one ever argued or had lowd issues with prices, merchandise, or employees. If there was on issue, it was solved in no time with everyone involved very happy. Now I worked for wal-mart for 3 months or so. It totally sucked. I was hired full time and permanent, well come to find out my papers were all chnged to be temp. for inventory only and before they even had me on the floor. I helped their customers like I did in my previous job and was told to not be so attentive and THAT helpful. Can you believe it? I was told not to pay that much attention to my customers and keep my nose in my work. Jeeze that was an awlfull feeling, going against my belief and standards! While on the inside, they 100+ people I worked with had just as bad attitudes behind the scenes as infront. I happily left, telling them just how I felt. There were other instinces of discrimination against me that I brought forward but all parties involved denied it. I contacted an attorney but I am just a "white girl" and it isn't a good enough case. I know each store is different, but I have contacted people in NJ, PA, KY, OH, FL, GA, SC, NC, AL, and NM to name just a few and everyone is in agreement. THe managment is the issue mostly and they need to chill out and know that their job IS to keep everyone happy all of the time, customers and employees, vendors and customers alike. I had to and it worked very well, I was happy along with my crew.

#8UPDATE Employee

Thu, January 08, 2004

I am an associate(employee) at a sizable store. I've worked there going on 4 years, and have seen many good things, many bad things. But, yes, I still work there, because I enjoy working with the people that I do. I have seen many customers than are more than friendly, and many customers that are incredibly rude. I treat them all with respect, and try to help them the best I can, as a department manager, that's my job. Now, I am not an imformation booth, I don't know where everything is in the store, but the basic items, are not usually a problem. The problem I have , is some, not all, customers just aren't willing to look for the items they need. That's fine.when one asks a question concerning an item, say cleaning supplies(and my store is a Supercenter)I'll say that they are in the grocery section, even mentioning the isle, and the location,if it's an item I know. And, then, they sometimes just look at me, with total surprise, and will then argue with me, saying it was in the area of the store that they are now, when they were there last. Now, I have a job to do.The things that top my list at the beginning of the work day do not include "Confusing and frustrating customers" . No, it's not always true that Wal-Mart hires the best and brightest. That's true for EVERY company I have worked for. But, I am proud to say at my store, even if the management is sometimes questionable(upper management),the Associates, for the most part, will bend over backward for the customer, and have on most occasions. We also have 31 registers, and on ANY given day,we have AT LEAST 20 of them open. The cashiers are treated with respect, and given their breaks and lunches ,maybe a little late, but even I don't get my lunch on time, and that's EVERYDAY.At least I get one. Some of the things I have read on this site just make me laugh. Doesn't it say something about a company though, when they post a link to a site like this one on their site? that's how I found this one, on Wal-mart.com.

I have read the MILLION rebuttals on here, and the only thing I honestly have an opinion about is the minimum wage babble. I don't care how much (or how little) money you make because guess what???? You have no right to treat anyone less than you would want to be treated. Yes, you may have stood on your feet for 800 hours with only one 2 second break, but you don't treat the customer as if it were their fault that you're there and tired and stressed out. I work for a different company as a cashier and as guest service. I am so sick of everyone using money as an excuse. They have done studies, and even if an employee were given an extra $2 an hour or MORE, they would still work no more ( or less ) hard than before. I have worked for Target for over a year. I just got a raise because I applied myself at work and I am never rude to a consumer. NEVER!!! I am sorry, but it's just not acceptable to be rude, or indignant. You, as a Wal-Mart employee, should think about maybe NOT being rude and maybe you won't be making min. wage. Working at guest service, I am yelled at at least 3 times a day due to our strict policies, but the next person who steps up in line is treated with the utmost respect by myself. One more thing to the diaper customer, had you come into Target, we would have said the same thing, except, since the total came to $14, we would not have even given you a giftcard b/c our policy only allows us to give a giftcard for $10 or less. I applaud anyone who works for any company and keeps their integrity but still treats the consumer with respect. There is NEVER an excuse for rudeness. Bottom line. P.S. for the record, the policy of a store is not a ripoff. they are protected by the LAW so that they can have these policies

How would you feel if you worked for a company where the 5 owners the Walton family has a total of 105 Billion dollars and the employees are lucky to make above minimum wage? You consumers blame the employees well how dare you - blame the company for paying such low wages and overworking their subordinates on top of micromanaging everything. If you want to know what kind of company this is then allow me to explain. This is a company that hired 150 illegal aliens (mexicans) to come across the border and do maintenance at a lower cost without a green card. This is not the store manager that did this mistake, this is WALMART CORPORATION that ORDERED this to reduce costs and i know this because all Walmart stores are owned by the head offices. This is a company that discriminates based on color. If a black person and a white person are just as qualified then the white person gets it because he's a true american while the black guy gets nothing. If you think i'm kidding just surf the net and look for the class action suit filed by many minorities against Walmart. If you think i'm joking about it i'll have you know that Johnny Cochrane-the lawyer in the O.J. Simpson case is the lawyer in that class action suit. This is also a company that discriminates based on "gender" Women are less likely than men to succeed. This is another class action lawsiut filed against Walmart for the obvious "glass ceiling effect" readily apparent in this company. To sum it all up, WALMART SYSTEMATICALLY DISCRIMINATES AGAINST MINORITIES!! I guess this is the American way right? stuff like this is what makes you people proud of being American right? America is the only country that would allow something like this to ever happen. Who am I kidding, Sam Walton the owner of Walmart was awarded a medal of freedom by George Bush in 1992 for reaching a billion dollars. What kind of a dumb country would give an award for reaching a billion dollars? is that really freedom? Here he is presented with a medal and every employee in the store is living below poverty. This is not freedom that's slavery. That's the american Dream - slavery. You want to know that this company needs? UNIONS!!! Until they are all unionized they will only get worse. Rebuttal all you want but i know what most people don't know about this company and it is evil and only UNIONS can stop it

All those who want to complain how hard it is to deal with customers and it is so hard to stand for long hours. You get paid to do this! Yeah I have worked for hours at a time. Standing there checking out irate customers. Not only for 9 hours but for 16, with no break but a couple of 15s.Did I b***h about it no. I was making money. You know working off the clock is illegal and stupid. If youre gonna gripe dont do it. Why do you do it? For the money, not cause you get to smile at customers and hope they smile back. You bust your butt to make money. That is why at the end of the year you get fired no matter what you have "given" to the company or its consumers. The biggies up top clean house, they weed as many out as they can so that they will have bigger bonuses. Please! Walmarts policy is the customer is always right, I know not in so many words. But if a customer said you were rude or they wanted things a certain way and you messed up, consider yourself written up. You stand there to make money.

I've seen far more crass rudeness from customers

#16UPDATE EX-employee responds

Mon, December 01, 2003

I worked at WM in two different locations for a total of 7 years before I quit. I've seen some rudeness to customers (mainly from younger associates, which partially explains the high turnover rates), but I've seen far more crass rudeness from customers to both the associates and each other--as evidenced by the stampede that trampled the woman this past Thanksgiving weekend (and boy, could I tell you all stories from my 7 Black Fridays). I agree that all anybody has to do if they're upset with their treatment is to call a manager and complain. The person behind the return desk is following the policies they're allowed to follow. If you're polite and ask for a CSM rather than screaming your head off or being really rude to the associate, they'll call one for you. If you get all irate and start yelling and having fits, they'll be less willing to go out of their way for you. Would you want to deal with someone behaving that way at your job? If the CSM isn't making the decision you want, calmly ask for a manager. S/he'll call an assistant manager for you. This may be annoying to you, but there is an organizational chain of command, just like any organization has. Work your way up through the ranks, and one of these people will overturn the stated policies. Trust me, it works. The only exceptions to this are items which are related to bodily fluids such as blood glucose lancets and breast milk pumps, and this is only because of the safety factor involved in handling these particular types of items. So please: from now on, throw away your used pregnancy test that 'didn't work'. Do not expect to get your cash back on something you urinated on (and then subsequently get offended if the associate drops the item in horror and runs to repeatedly wash their hands with alcohol--absolutely disgustingly true story). Some things are just common sense, people. And if your bodily fluid related item is defective, please contact the manufacturer. We didn't make the thing, we just bought it from them to stock on our shelves. The only other thing to address really, is that the associates are overworked, underpaid, and always completely stressed. I could shop in the Walmart that my mother worked in while I was visiting her and customers would ask me if I worked there. My only theory is that working for that chain had stressed me (and apparently others) to the point that my forehead had creased into a permanent W between my eyebrows. Other interesting info that no customer ever pays attention to or even cares about is the number of employees who suffer stress-related injuries or diseases such as nervous breakdowns or anurysms or hypertension or heart attacks. Since I left that job for a better paying regular job with little to no public interaction, my blood pressure has lowered dramatically and I no longer suffer from so many tension migraines. My mother retired after 18 years and her horrifically high blood pressure has dropped to nearly normal levels in the space of a year. When you're complaining about rude employees, you might want to keep these sort of things in mind. When you're stressed to that level, you don't always behave the way you ordinarily might, either. And for those of you who say "get a better job", some people can't follow that self-righteous pablum due to their individual circumstances and the fact that so many are out of work right now as it is and these employees are lucky to have a job at all in these times. You might also think about how you might contribute to the stress levels which build up and cause rudeness from over-worked employees. I actually had people stop me in the parking lot on my way in to work to ask if an item was returnable, just because they recognized me. And I wasn't working yet, and I wasn't wearing my vest to indicate that I was at work. They just recognized my face. I could've been late to work for all they cared. But I politely stopped and answered their questions. I literally couldn't take a lunch/dinner break in the snack bar without people sitting at my table to tell me they had complaints about this or that associate, simply because they knew I worked for the customer service desk. Neither store I worked for ever asked me to work off the clock; in fact, they insisted that nobody work without clocking in first. They stressed it constantly. The customers were the ones who never respected boundaries. "Oh, I know you're on your lunch, but..." But nothing. When you're on your lunch break, you don't work, do you? No. You eat your lunch. Me? I listened to their complaint, and told them I'd see what I could do or made suggestions to help them, and tried to eat in between. I guess I'm too polite to say, "I'm on lunch, get lost." I wasn't doing it for extra credit, I just tried to help people who were sometimes appreciative, and oftentimes not. I tried to stay polite, I did not act like a robot, and yet I was constantly treated as less than nothing. It got to the point where one snotty woman got so nasty about her return (after 20 minutes of verbally abusing me not professionally, but personally (at the end she got all smarmy and said, "you HAVE to do this") that I told her *I* didn't have to do anything after her disgraceful treatment of me. I then shut my drawer on the cash I was about to hand her, logged off the register, called a CSM to perform the return for her, and I walked out. I was working all alone, and the line was building up behind her--I had been taking the next people in line on the second register just to keep the line moving while her return held up the first register. Once I walked out to calm down, the people behind her in line took care of her for me. I politely apologized to those people when I returned, and got back to work. Bottom line: employees and customers of any company are people just like you and me. There are several choices that can be made on either side of the equation to diffuse situations and keep rudeness to a minimum.. but staying calm and polite in the wake of rudeness is usually the best call if you can possibly do it. As a customer, you're more likely to get your way, and employees will be more likely to go out of their way to help you. As an employee, you're more likely to earn a repeat customer and thereby cause profit to your store which translates to more payroll hours (which equals more help on the registers or sales floor). Diaper lady from the first post: sometimes these things happen. At a place like Walmart, things are bought and sold at a tremendous rate, and things that are regular price one day can be clearanced the next day. If you have a receipt, the staff can refund the full amount you paid. If not, there's nothing else for them to go by. If you're unhappy with that answer, then calmly ask for management, as I stated above. Work up through the ranks, there's no real reason to try and jump over people, except your own impatience. You're eventually gonna get a manager to give you whatever the regular price was on them. And if you're at least polite to the associate behind the counter, they'll most likely call the manager they know will override them. I did. I was not authorized to override the policy myself, but I knew which manager to call for authorization, and then I took care of it. I was less willing to do that for someone who screamed their head off at me about policies I never wrote but had to comply with. Always keep these things in mind when you're shopping and returning. Hope you have better luck next time. By the way, if you returned them at $2/pack, they'd have been re-sold at $2/pack. Apparently that entire shipment had been clearanced. Also, cashiers are not supposed to keep your gift cards even when they're empty because they are reusable. If one tries to keep yours, tell them you want it back. If they give you flak, call a CSM over. Oh, and if you have a receipt for a return and the service desk insists on giving you a gift card, that's because you paid for that item with a gift card or a check written less than 10 days before. If you paid with a credit card, they have to return the charge to your credit card or put the amount on a gift card for you if you don't have the same credit card with you. They can give cash back only on items paid by cash or debit card (which is the same as cash) or if you don't have a receipt but the item's under $5 (the minimum amount for a gift card to be loaded). The reasons for this are really the usual few bad apples making things hard for everyone else.. the thieves using other people's credit (or people trying for cash without the cash advance fees on their own cards), people trying to use stolen checks to buy items and then bring it back for cash, people writing bad checks for high-ticket items and returning it for cash, shoplifting for cash returns, etc. It's a fact of life, and the chain had to adapt to survive. And for my final (look out, it's mean--heheh) parting shot to the general consumer public: You customers all get mad at the store and/or employees and say you're never coming back, and yet I always saw you the next day if not the next half hour. When are YOU going to mean what you say?

I purchased my wife an anklet last Christmas. About two months later, the clasp broke and I returned it to Walmart's Jewelry Dept. I still had the receipt and the young lady told me that it could be fixed easily and would be back in the store in 3 weeks and that someone would call me. She handed me a claim tag and slipped the anklet into a drawer by the cash register. Three weeks later, the Mrs and I are back at the Walmart and I slipped over to the Jewelry Dept to see if maybe the anklet was back. There was a different woman there and I told her about being there 3 weeks earlier. She looked in a file cabinet, shuffled some papers, and finally looked in a drawer. It was the same drawer that the anklet had been put in earlier. IT HAD NEVER LEFT THE STORE. It was put in the drawer and forgotten, as if I would never be back to get it. I was not a happy customer. I demanded to see the manager. He came over, listened to my story and I told him that he was giving me a refund for the anklet. He agreed, I didn't even have to go the the Service Desk. I got the refund in the Jewelry Dept. Someone messed up but at least I left the Walmart with my money. Bottom line to Walmart employees, say what you mean and mean what you say. Don't tell your customers that something is going to be taken care of and then just blow it off once they're gone.

I guess most of you who work and spend your hard earned money at Walmart don't even have a clue as to what us employees go through each time that we step behind that register. First, let me clear up a few of these myths: 1. Walmart employees are not stupid. I, for one, am a nursing student who is on the Dean's list and just happens to want to make a little extra cash. Those of you who treat us like we are trash are going to regret it when we're your nurses or doctors or lawyers, or whatever else we may be studying for. Many of us are in school. Those who aren't are people who work hard to keep YOU happy, and when we get people who throw fits, we just get stressed more. 2. Keep your receipt if you may have any questions about the sizing of something. It's common sense. 3. It isn't hard work to work a cash register, but standing 9 hours at a time, with only a half hours break is hard on your body. Plus, when people put their 50-lb dog food bags on the conveyor belt, we have to lift it up or else, of course, you throw a fit when you have to take it down yourself. 4. We are not all rude. I personally greet my customers as if they were friends. Those who don't greet back are the rude ones. It doesn't take much of your time to say hello, even if you're in a hurry. So, if you don't want to shop at Wal-mart, don't. We already have way too many customers, and believe me, Walmart IS a Monopoly. It put Ames out of business and may do it again to Kmart or another store. I don't want to see it happen, but we the Americans made it so. I only have a few days left there and will only be satisfied when I see that customers AND employees are treated with respect. There's NO need to yell. Just grow up. If you like to shop there, then go ahead, but shop with respect and intelligence. And if you work there, be nice to customers, but don't let them take advantage of you just because you work there.

Well, I guess we all now know, just exactly how WalMart got soooo BIG and sooo Rich!! The old "Diaper Refund Scam!!" The oldest trick in the book! And, yet another innocent soul has fallen victim! It would seem to me that this poor innocent victim, perhaps should have waited to see the egg before it hatched, before buying SEVEN CASES of diapers for it. And, WalMart, could have done a better job of taking care of their Valued Customer. However, rules are rules, and in large corporations, they are not easy to get around. Mom and Pop arent there to say "Oh, thats OK, we'll make an exception this time." Because Mom and Pop, are really millions of day traders and banks and investors and such collectivly known as "WalMart". I think with a little effort, and a carefully worded complaint letter to the right person at WalMart, could possibly bring a fair settlement to this particular complaint. In the meantime, thanks for the laughs lady!! Really, "How hard is it to keep your receipt?" Would make your life alot easier!!! Good Luck in the future!

complain to the store manager

#26UPDATE Employee

Wed, October 22, 2003

On the outside of every WalMart and Walmart Supercenter, you will see the words "satisfaction guaranteed." If you, as a customer, are not satisfied with any aspect of your shopping experience at the store, you can complain to the store manager and if you feel that the problem or issue has not been resolved, you may call 1-800-WALMART and speak to customer service in Bentonville, Ar. These comments are then forwarded to the store manager and the manager must key into the computer system what exactly was done to resolve the situation. At our store, the customer always comes first. The majority of our customers are good people, and yes there are those out there who like nothing better than to screw over Walmart. We have had things returned to us with the reasonings of "needed the money", "grandma died and could no longer use the TV" and many other reasons that most retailers would turn the customer away for using. But if it is an honest person doing this, think of how many customers we have gained by not giving them a hassle. I have worked for Walmart for 13+yrs and I believe it is a good company to work for. All stores are different and I feel for those of you who feel as if you were treated badly. Just remember if you have a complaint, it is better than to approach it with a calm attitude and not to be hostile.. people are much more willing to help you if you are polite and not yelling at them or treating them as if they are an idiot.

...if we did not shop in "your store", you would not have a job. Why don't you make it easier for yourself and have a good attitude when we do come to your register? Do more than grunt your greeting to us BEFORE we say hello to you. You act like robots, why shouldnt you be treated like one? Further more...this goes both ways...if you don't like your job, do us all a favor and QUIT! We realize that we have to give something up to pay low prices, and we have given up customer service. We expect to have boxes all over in the isles, we expect the associate in electronics to be talking to a co-worker and not answer our questions, and we expect the cashiers to be less than competent. How terrible for you to have to walk to isle 15! When will the horror end?

#28Consumer Suggestion

Fri, October 10, 2003

First of all, as an employee of ANY retail store, why would you think it is okay to have a line of THIRTY customers and only one cashier??? You actually suggest to come back during a non-rush hour time. What happened to the STORE serving the CUSTOMER?? Why can't an additional register be opened to accommodate the influx of customers and serve everyone in a timely fashion? Second, it is the STORE's responsibility to adequately price and bar-code the items! I for one never check to make sure a bar code is included on every item I buy. Why should I?! I am the customer!!! You are the low-life no-brain employee! It is YOUR job to take care of me, the CUSTOMER, by making sure that items are priced, bar-coded, neat, tidy, and also to serve customers in a reasonable length of time with a smile and a "thank you." Remember, Bimbette, without customers, YOU would not have a job. So next time you put on your attractive royal blue polyester vest, and large multi-colored plastic name badge, reaffirm the reason you are standing behind your conveyor belted register, and adjust your attitude accordingly.

As a Wal Mart associate, you have no idea what we go through! You people expect us to have a line of 30 people and get all of you out in 30 seconds. you don't want to be in line for 30 minutes...try coming when the store isn't in rush hour! We do take a while shortening our lines especially when one idiot comes all the way down to register 1 and wants a pack of cigarettes. Then we have to walk all the way to reg. 15 and back. Now there is a BIG sign in front of reg 15"ALL TOBACCO PRODUCTS PURCHASED HERE" you do that all the time and expect us to be happy and serve you fater....we're not robots. And of course theres the other idiots who come in line knowing they dont have a upc or price attatched and say i couldn't find a price. Well hello!!! Ask an associate in the department or any one you bump into. Dont complain about the lines being long...youre the ones who cause it!!!! Thats right! if youre so unhappy with what happens at wal mart then why the hell do you still shop there..... we get s**t on day after day about our lines and how to satisfy our customers...so honestly, unless youre an associate there...then you have no idea!!!!

#30UPDATE EX-employee responds

Tue, May 20, 2003

To April; I do not deffend wal-mart but when people are talking bad about employees who put up with customers crap day in and day out. People who work hard to have customers treat them like idiots and call all employees stupid. I got screwed by wal-mart because I made a mistake in taking pride in my work and always remembering that the customer is always right. I would go out of my to try fix a mistake even if it was not my mistake. I went out of my way to make sure everything was done right and it wasn't long before I was being taken advantage of by my department manager and store managers. They would give me a list to do that had nothing to do with my department and they did it because they knew I would do it and never say no. So I do not appreciate customers saying bad things about employees who are overworked and are forced to work in an understaffed store. Maybe the next you are shopping in wal-mart you should pay attention to the amount of tasks a single employee are taking on before you complain about having to stand in line for a while. Don't take your bad shopping expirince out the hourly employee because there is usually a salary manager behind it.

From the sounds of the previous posts, I'm so glad I don't work at those Walmarts! I can say the Supercenter I work at is a pretty decent store. I believe that every store is only as good as it's manager and ours is very customer oriented. I know that especially with the amount of teenagers that Walmart hires, attitudes can become a big problem. Some of those attitudes (adult and teen) can slip through the cracks, but for the most part our store manager expects and demands respect and courtesy for the customer. Walmart policies regarding refunds, etc. are still enforced, but I know several lower level managers who go the extra mile to keep our customers happy especially around Christmas time. I have worked at my store for three years and there have been a few problems (just like you'd find working for any corporation), but overall the associates and management I have worked with consistently try to do right by our customers. Remember, I'm only giving you my experience at my store.

I am a long time consumer of Wal-Mart. Although I have had a few bad experences with Wal-Mart, I have had many more good ones. I would like to know if the store you are visiting is a super Wal-Mart or a regular one? And is the store in a large town or a small one. It seems to me more complants come from Super Wal-Marts in larger towns. I am concerned with this because the Wal-Mart I shop in is being replaced with a Super Wal-Mart. I do have one suggestion. SMILE!! A smile can make all the difference in the world.

how to deal with wal-mart and its people

#33Consumer Comment

Sat, December 07, 2002

to start i must inform you that i grew up in bentonville ark. and walmart was not the walmart it has turned into today. walmart and its founder sam walton used to care about its employees and its custamers theye treated both as family and friend. i met sam while i was detailing his airplanes at walmart aviation we talked and he told me the plans looked good and yet he never told me who he was i later found out who he was.
now keeping this in mind i had bought a emerson vcr and it was junk i returned it 2 times and still got one that dident work right upon returning this one without a recept (note i dident have a recipt for the other 2 either)
the store manager informed me i could only get another one and refused to return my money unless by check that would take 15 days. right 15 days now the checks from walmart for the company planes took 3 months but the checks for the private planes i got at sams office on the sguare downtown bentonville. i informed the manager i wanted my money now and if he failed to do so i would go straight to sam. he with a smart a*s attitude informed me i couldent i said watch me
well 15 minuts later i was back at the store the manager kissing my butt and handing over my money.
what did i learn well not what you think i learned to deal with them be informed the sign said a recipt was not required but would be nice that sign has since been changed to what it is today. read every sign posted at the service desk know your rights and know the laws and stand your ground. go up the ladder with your complaint if cs is not making you happy get the manager if the manager fails to make you happy go higher. now the emploiees well there just like you there human
and if you talk to then in a civil manner theyll be more then happy to help you. iv seen csms that are rude to there staff and i have gotton items almost free because the casheer was afraid to call a csm for a price check. and as far as shelf prices if it says $5.00 for a $40.00 item by law its yours for the 5 bucks and if you inforce it you will get it just say hey its marked 5 bucks by law thats what you have to sell it for and if you dont ill take you to court but first call a manger and asst manager and grab a few coustamers as witness and take them to the shelf where the price tag states the price. trust me it works and while everyone is looking at the price in dissbelife inform the manager that there staff should pay better attention to there job and say you guys are getting to be just like kmart add insult to pain. now there meat dept is a place to get ecoli iv gotten lots of bad chicken and steaks so i rip open the bag and smell it and if its good ill buy it and if its bad ill call the dept manager and show it to them and while we are talking i inform them theye should pull all of and check them. iv pulled bad meat from there shelvs many times iv handed them 5 and 6 packs at a time steaks or roasts turning brown or green and ya iv had some give me a hard time about it i just inform them ill be back soon and if i see that same meat back on the shelf ill retreave the helth dept and ill wait till theye get here and show them the meat i have pulled that you put back on the shelf and i inform the emploiee that a lawsuit for food poising is more costly then throwing out bad meat. so my point is this walmart and its people are human and theye make mistakes too. now i must agree there current system sucks and kmart sucks even more.
as far as emploiees working off the clock well thats there fault. people wake up you are not robots programed to do anything your told stand your ground and stand up for yourself if a employeer asks you to do any work and your not on the clock say sure ill do that after i clock in if theye say no do it now say excuse me do i look like i work for free is there a sign on by forhead that says ill work for free i dont think so so youll either wait till i clock in or you can do the job yourself and then say the company insurance provider would have your head if i work off the clock and get hurt and you as a leader should know this and should follow the labour laws
and then ask are you knowingly going to break company and labour laws and say i dont think so and walk away. belive me people listen when you know your stuff. but dont just talk bs read the laws and be right. but of all things remember you can catch more flys with honey then with vinager.
most people dont know the laws so inform dont threaten unless you have too. iv gone through the frezzer dept and placed all frost bitten items in a cart and took the cart to the store manager and said these items are bad and can cause someone to get very sick please dispose of them i shop here all the time and i know you guys are busy and want to have a good reputation and someone getting sick wont help you need to have you dept hold a safe food handeling and storing meeting by the looks of it someone is failing in that knoldge. the dept heads in all the stores i shop at know me because i inform and help them i dont just give them a hard time i help them when i buy meat i place it in a bag and i get a paper towl 1 wet by the drinking fountian and a few dry ones so the check out person can get the blood off there hands i wipe the conveyor belt so your food dosent get blood on it if you are placing food on the belt behind my food. ill pick things up off the floor so people dont trip over them you know the things you or your kids drop but dont pick up.
ill take that tomato or steak back to its dept head you know the one you lazyly leave on some shelf cause you changed your mind and desides not to buy it but dident feel like walking back to where you got it. if i see a spill on the floor ill place my cart by it and ask my wife to wait a sec and ill get someone to clean it up and if there to busy at the moment ill ask for a wet floor sign and place it at the spill. oh and no im not a employee of any store im a retired chef retired due to being hit by a drunk driver.

You know there time clocks suck. As an employee you never new if you where coming or going. They where strict about clocking out at breaks and lunch, even to go potty. I came in as an animal care specialist, and when my Pets manager quit, i was shiped to Health and beuty instead of keeping me in pets with the life fish display- thats what i was hired to do!!!

I later nearly had a mental breakedown after managers fought eachother to eather have every one on the registers , or everyone cleaning the isles! For minum wage they slave drive the employees (NOTE: Makes grouchy people), and the only way to be happy is to have an Lobotimy done.

For the original Miss with the new baby...I am sure you got all those diapers as a baby shower gift, which the moraons whom are in oppisiton seem to not see "KEEP YOUR RECIPT".. horse pooh

If walmart realy wanted your buisness they would switch you the diapers, And if i where you i would not worry too much about Huggies brand, Pampers and the walmart cheap brand are good next choices ..

I am an associate at Walmart and I have several comments.

Complaints about refunds/exchanges: Yes it can be a problem and had sad it is that an associate has to be suspious of nearly every customer with out a reciept. Unfortunately there is so much theft and it is frustrating, associates tend to take it personally.

My store has refunded cash on a USED outdoor grill, a scratched USED weed eater, a three year old camera, NAPA Auto parts (walmart doesn't even sell NAPA.) All you have to do is save your reciept and insist on a cash refund.

My store has a no hassle refund policy, that cost us ALOT of money and you know how walmart makes up the loss they cut employee hours. So when people steal from walmart they don't hurt walmart they hurt the minumun wage employees

I am sorry that people have encountered rude employees. you have no idea how much importance is placed on customer service. Lack of it is grounds for termination. If you do not get satisfaction from a CSM ask for the store manager and go higher if necessary. The degree of resolution , as it is in most things is in dirrect porprotion to the reason , logic and common courtsey you display

Be glad that you didn't hear back from them when filing an application, unless you enjoy working off the clock. There are innumerable documented incidents in which employees worked overtime for free. In fact, there is an active investigation by the United States Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division, who has interviewed both past and present employees about being ordered by managers to work overtime after they have clocked out.

There have been attempts in some states by union reps to talk to the employees about unionization, but from what I have read, Wal-Mart is of the mindset that it would close a location that voted in representation. When Sam Walton was alive, I think that Wal-Mart WAS a good place to work. But it now seems to be far from a happy place to work.

I work for Wal-Mart and I enjoy going to work everyday. I'm sorry for the difficulties ya'll have had with particular employees with the company. Just like the rest of the world, I'am a customer too. I'd like to say that Wal-mart on a whole is a fine company to work for and i'm proud to say that.

I'm not brainwashed nor am i simple minded. I do understand that some people and I say "people" because it's just not associates(employees), it's also the customers, that need lessons in common courtesy. I'm not a cashier and i don't work in customer service either. I work on the salesfloor, I work in one of the biggest supercenter in Alabama, I help alot of people everyday and i guarantee when i'm on the floor i have a ginuine smile on my face.

Giving good customer service is hard to do and i do it.So when someone snaps their fingers literally, to get my attention, it makes me feel low. or when i smile and say hello and you don't have the common courtesy to at least acknowlege me, how is that suppose to make someone feel. Everyone knows that not everyone is not always nice. So for every one story that you have to tell about Walmart employees being rude.

I can tell you 10 stories for every one you have concerning employee/customer situations. Where the customer is totally wrong or just being down right rude to customers. The only reason why you never hear about them is because we don't have places like this to vent them.

So my point is that: Not all people are nice, Wal-mart does not carry every product in the world (i would like to say that is a good thing b/c of all the customers that complain about how big the store is already), not every associate is all knowing (give them a chance). And if all else fails, if your ever in Montgomery, Alabama come see us, we will show you the customer service you deserve. Thanks for listening.

WalMart has become the usual Monopoly!!!

I don't know why any of these employees would ever back WalMart up. I HAVE managed at a department store for years and have seen this crap day in day out. Consumers throw "Fits" because Walmart depicts them like their lower than everyone else. People used to shop their because they WERE cheeper, more curteous, and had a great reputation. But over the last few years they have become your typical monopoly. They know by other deepartment stores filing chapter 11, they can treat people worse and just not give a d**n about the consumers.

I personally have filed complaints against Walmart for many reasons, some of them simular to the above. I travel alot and have visited many Walmarts nationwide. I have never seen a Walmart that shows happy employees. I have been treated with disrespect on a rascist level, I always have to stand in line for at least a half hour on any given day, I've had fragile things thrown into a bag.

Let me give you some examples of how Walmarts really treat their customers. On one visit, there was a young african american boy pulling carts out for the african american guests, when I aproached, he asked me if I needed a cart, I replied yes, please. He then looks at me and says, "There over there, get it yourself." I've complained as have many others on this perticular young man. And to date he still works there with the same rascist attitude. My mother needed help getting excersise equipment that was unpriced. She stood there for 15 or so minutes and finally walked over to the young lady working back there. She was talking to another young man she knew. My mom asked if someone could be help her, she needed a price on their equipment. The girl said she would be with her in a minute. OK, well 10 minutes past, she was still waiting and the girl was still talking with he friend, so I walked over and said, "Excuse me my moms been waiting for someone to help her get a price for quite a while now." The girl says, "Well, you'll just have to wait, I'm talking with my boyfriend." Complaints were made, again nothing happened. On many occassions, I've picked up something when to pay for it and was charged a different price, when I tell the cashier, she calls a manager that always tell me, well, someone probally changed the sign. One one specific occasssion, I brought a 24 pack of Pepsi the sign said (at the front of the store) $4.98, they rang up $5.98,when the manager came over she walked ahead of me to the sign and flipped the first number to 6 making them say $6.98. I got pissed. She said that someone just flipped the number, I said, really, then why are they ringing up $5.98, I know that you're suppossed to give me the price on your sign." she said she couldn't do that, and got really snappy with me, I was calm til this point, so I just walked out and left everything on the counter.

On another level, One of the employees above said that they don't match cig' prices and there is a federal law that says they can't. I don't know where they got this information, but I went to the store to see if there was a sign, which there wasn't, I also looked up Federal cig' laws. There IS NOT a federal law that states a distributor (Walmart) can not inclued cig's in their price gaurentee. I already knew this wasn't true, because, like any other mechandise, cig' manufactors give out promotional coupons, which on recite, they do have to apply. If Walmart chooses not to inclued cigs in price gaurentee, then state so, that is their right under Federal Laws. So, please get your facts straight.

Walmart is now at the top of a monopoloy that's why they THINK they can get away with screwing people, but just remember, K-Mart thought the same this, now look at them.

I'll make it really short and sweet - Don't shop at Walmart. Period. Since Sam Walton passed on, his family looks at the chain as a cash cow and no longer care about customers. I shop elsewhere.

It's pretty bad for them too, as I used to spend around $15,000 every year, most of that on Christmas layaway toys for my kids. And, I got tired really fast of waiting in line for up to 30 minutes to give THEM money, and I also got tired of veteran employees outside smoking while young kids were manning the registers.

I think you need to open more than 4 registers per 400 customers.

At the Walmart I work at the rules for refunds are posted at the service desk and in various departments of the store such as electronics. Any consumer should know to keep their reciepts....thats just common sense....but it amazes me how many customers throw away their reciepts and then throw a fit when they cant get their money back or they dont get their way about everything.

If walmart let every customer have there way without documentation that the item was actually purchased then their would not be a walmart.

We tell our customers to keep their reciepts in the photo department incase they want to return it. As for the ex-customer who mentioned walmart was overcharging him and his wife....I dont think it was the cashiers fault because we get in trouble for incorrect cash in our drawer. If you have never worked in retail you dont need to be bad mouthing the walmart associates because you dont know what the hell your talking about becaue many of you dont.

A majority of the customers that come into walmart want to run over the associates and we dont have to take it.

Some people have posted on this site about rain checks well special buys and certain departments do not issue rain checks. We do not ad match cigarettes or bear.

Just thought I would let you'all know since a customer tried to start a lawsuit against us for false advertising but what she didnt know was it is a federal law.

I guess she didnt read the signs hanging right in her face. As far as the lady/man that had the accident in the walmart store....We do file reports and take pictures of the accident and the area so you should have asked for a member of management instead of walking away. I

wish some of these customers could see the way they act because they really make a a*s of themselves in front of everyone only for the associates to pass the story around in the break room and get a few laughs.

My son got a defective toy for his birthday. We took it to back to Walmart with no receipt and he was given cash. Maybe not all Walmarts have the same policy?

I also find it hard to believe that they didn't carry a particular size of Huggies. Perhaps they were just out of stock when you visited. Did you ask if they'd be getting them in later?

Please save your receipt

#46Consumer Suggestion

Sun, March 03, 2002

Any smart consumer should always save their receipt for items that have warranties and things that they may not want in the future.
This is not a hard thing to do but most people complain that it is. One reason to save your receipt is so that if the item you purchased goes on sale the next day then you can get back what you paid for it if you return it. If you do not have it then how do the folks at the service desk supposed to know whether you bought it last month or yesterday?

you should also look at the side of the company. Many people each day walk out without paying for their merchandise and return the next day for a refund. The people at the customer service desk have no idea if you paid for something or not you will never catch an honest thief. If you have your receipt then it is obvious you did not steal it so therefore you can have your money back.

Blondemart, I am afraid your suggestion to inform customers that they can redeem thier gift card for cash will fall on deaf ears. Your Company doesnt want the consumer to know those kinds of things. Imagine the amount of money they earn on all the gift cards not fully depleated. Five cents here, fourty cents there adds up to alot of money annually.

Wal mart knowingly rips off customers daily. My wife and I have shopped for groceries at THREE supercenters in as many states and had to correct the cashiers every time for over charging us and not honoring thier price match policies. Each time we had to call a CSM to straighten out our dilema. Each time they were not very customer oriented.

My wife started writing the price of each item on it with a black permanent marker. We really couldnt believe the amounts we were being over charged. We came to the realization that we shouldnt have to go through so much trouble to spend our hard earned money and decided to stop shopping at Walmart entirely.

So Blondemart next time you are at work slow down and take a good look at whats going on and I think you will be amazed and disappointed, like we were.

I agree that you should have been told and I can do nothing about the store that you visited, but I can bring up a sugesstion that it be made a policy that these things are explained when a gift card is givin or purchased. But you can tell people so they know and maybe that will help even if that is just a few people.

Maybe the staff at Wal-Mart could offer this information instead of insisting the customer ask first.

Maybe the staff at Wal-Mart could offer this information instead of insisting the customer ask first. If we have to get the staff to fill out a questionaire every time we need to know something they should be telling us as a matter of service, maybe we shouldn't be shopping there at all.
The reason us consumers 'flip out' when we are ripped of by arbitrary policies imposed by retailers, is because we are trying to warn them; 'smarten up or you'll lose a customer- there are plenty of competitors out there'. What really ticks us off is when employees tell us we're dummies for not knowing what they know, especially when they forget to tell us.

..ask someone one a question insted of throwing a fit you might learn something.

I work at Wal-Mart and have something to say about the gift card comment that was made from the diaper lady/man.

The gift cards that are given for returns or purchased by a customer are good for the amount that is put on the cards we are not told to keep them if they have money on them.In fact we ask if they want them back, even if they are empty because they are reusable. If you have an issue of how much money is left on the card, any cashier can tell you that. Also you can redeem the card for the money that is on it. A cashier will call a CSM and
the CSM with the turn of a key can give you what ever dollar amount is left on the card right down to the last penny. My point you ask? Just because you say it does not mean it is right, and if you ask someone one a question insted of throwing a fit you might learn something.
