I used to believe that I was the only one that felt cheated until I read on this website about the other Wachovia victims. I have stopped writing checks. Wachovia could never get them posted in time for me to avoid fees. I am about to stop using my checkcard because Wachovia seems to diliberatley hold the posting of charges until they see that the account will be overdrawn and they can charge a fee. I went to the bank and asked them this question: If your ATM says I have an available balance of $100.00 and I withdraw $30.00, can I still be overdrawn?

The service rep said: " It doesn't matter what your available balance says. There may still be items on hold that haven't been posted." Perhaps, this is standard procedure, but I have seen this bank hold postings for more than five days in order to charge a fee.

Here is an example: Let's say you have $200.00 in the bank on Friday. On Saturday, you make two local purchases at fifty dollars each. Your available balance is now $100.00. On Sunday, you make 1 local purchase for $50.00. Your available balance is now $50.00. (By the way, don't trust the ATM, use your own math, because the ATM does not deduct on the weekend) On Monday, You use your checkcard to purchase $25.00 worth of gas at Exxon. Your

available balance is now $25.00. Even though it is now Monday, the bank will still not post your weekend charges. They are waiting!! On Tuesday, You make a $15.00 purchase at the supermarket. Your available balance is now $10.00.

The next day, You will find that the bank has charged you a $31.00 unavailable funds charge. How can they do that? Because they post the unavailable funds charge FIRST, so that they can take whatever you may have left in your account and then charge you an insufficient funds charge. They could actually post your charges as they come in. But how would they earn their money? I have had

deposits and checks come in on the same day and get charged for unavailable funds. What's their argument? " Oh that money was on hold, so it wasn't really there." What kind of fuzzy bookkeeping is that? In all of my years of dealing with banks, I have never

seen such financial hornswaggle.

This practice of theirs is especially popular toward the end of the year. The reason behind that is the fees collected at the end of the year are counted into the employees Christmas bonuses. You may go all

year without a fee. Watch your account closely come late October early November. That's when they get desperate. They fee you for walking in the door. There have been ocassions when I have proven to them that their fee was incorrect. Yet, it doesn't stop them from trying. Something needs to be done about this bank. They know who to go after, too. I am going to another bank. I've been fighting these people for two years. I'm afraid to put my money in and even more afraid to take it out. I won't write checks anymore and I'm trading in my checkcard for a regular ATM card.

While I am still banking with them, I will deal with a human teller only and cash only. I'm definitely taking my business elsewhere. I would appreciate any further comments on this bank.

Maybe we can get together and get them to get honest and stop these crooked practices. This can not be legal. I'm willing to go all the way to my Senator with this complaint.

Wachovia... Bank of the Rich and Famous!

Amen to everything I've read here with two exceptions. The first being the comments from the poor, misguided person that got a refund and is happy about it. What they don't realize is that Wachovia is a wolf in sheeps clothing and they will recoup those fees somewhere down the road. My wife is unhappily employed with Wachovia and the only reason those fees were refunded is to retain the account. Closed accounts go against the branch. They would rather do something to appease the customer and keep the account open. After all, a closed account can't generate any more fee income...right?! As far as overdraft protection, that's a rip-off too. They will link a credit line or a savings account to your checking to cover any overdraft incurred up to your credit line or savings balance. However, they charge you daily interest on your credit line transfers and a flat $5.00 fee for transfers made from your own savings account! No matter how you slice it, you're gonna pay. The second exception to a comment made was the one about the fees paying for the employee christmas bonuses. Bonuses don't exist at the working class level of Wachovia. They wouldn't even pay for the branch Christmas party. they are REQUIRED to solicite a certain quota each month of new accounts and loans, keep logs of who they talked to and about what, stay late to call people at home to get more money flowing into Wachovia and if they don't meet their "quotas", they are called into a room for a half hour to talk about how they can be "better" Wachovia employees. It's employee brainwashing if you ask me and this practice reduces the customer to a number with a dollar sign on their head. Not to mention their practice of calling customers to ask questions about their service and if that person they called is upset with Wachovia for oh-so-many reasons and gives a score of less than a perfect 7, that goes against the employee that waited on them that day and prompts yet another half hour brainwashing session with management! All of these requirements (and I've only listed a few) are with no compensation. My wife did her job last month and referred two loans totalling $60,000.00 and recieved .36 cents in commission...you can only imagine how much Wachovia will make on those loans! My wife is so morally opposed to what's happening there but when she went to her manager about it she was told if she wanted to put food on the table, she would do whatever Wachovia expected of her...end of story. Needless to say she searches the classifieds every weekend so that one day she can tell them where to stick that pathetic job she's been forced to do for the past 18 months! I'm sure those fees are lining someones pockets, but certainly not the people doing all the work! I'll bet all of those folks working up there in Wachovias "Ivory towers" are well compensated for the holidays just like every other day of the year! In closing, I'll say that even my employee checking account has been assessed plenty of unjustified fees and in turn, many (not all)of them were refunded. The last one was for a CASH deposit that they argued was not available yet...HOW CAN CASH NOT BE AVAILABLE?!?!My question is, why should we have to jump through hoops to get money back from them that belonged to us in the first place!!! My wife worked for several large banks and she has never seen anything like this before!!!

My family successfully sued F.LEE BAILY, FIRST UNION, and If Ican get the family attorney some more Florida names I will file suit against this institution! Right now Im just taking evidence WACHOVIA is attempting to take over another bank and we all know how their paying for it! THIS HAS TO BE STOPPED! I have went to the bank and talked to a person and they will not give any of the service charges back. They not only do it the way she explained but also hold deposits until everything else goes through. It is not the way I want to do business with a bank so I'm in the process of switching!

ok above i ranted and raved about wachovia, am i am surprised to say that they took all the fees off! a very nice representative at the wachovia on college road, was very apologetic and immediently took off all the bounced fees and put the money directly back into my account. i didnt have to argue or anything, i went in their calm but a little on the defensive and it was taken care of in a matter of fifteen minutes. i didnt even have to pull out my information i got off ripoff report for backup. i encourage anyone who has this problem to just go to the bank like i did and get them to review every transaction with you.

please do not bank with wachovia. the consumer above couldnt have put it more plainly. this past month wachovia has bounced the same check three times, even when i had money in my account and was asured that it had been taken care of. i only wrote 2 checks in december and had the money to cover them both, but wachovia charged me a 25 dollar fee for something no one has yet to explain, and then bounced my check, then charged me 30 dollars. then they bounced my check again and this time i saw an extra 20 dollars missing so i assumed i was done with the whole thing. now i come to find out that they are trying to bounce the check again, even though i have the funds to cover it and have all along, i even have an overdraft protection that was not used! since it is the weekend and im just finding all this out, by two very rude phone represetatives, im am going to march into the bank tomarrow morning and raise hell. i cant pinpoint the individual, but i have plenty of printouts off ripoff report that i am willing to use as evidence for their faulty practices. this is especially helpful since the lady above specifies the bank doing this around the christmas holidays. i hope anyone reading this will go elsewhere to do their banking, this isnt the first time this has happened to me but im d**n sure it will be the last. thank you above writer, im taking your complaint with me tomarrow as backup and ill let everyone know how i am treated.
