My husband and I joined Vacation Travel Club at a promotional seminar in Indianapolis in early March 2006. We decided to join, as it sounded like it could save us money for renting condos in beach resorts, which is what our family enjoys.

In mid-April we contacted VTC to search for a condo in the Myrtle Beach area for the week of July 1-8. On April 28 we were faxed an agreement to rent a 2 bedroom condo at Myrtle Beach Resort for $850.00. We faxed back the agreement and had VTC run our credit card for the full amount to reserve the condo.

On May 19 we received our written confirmation along with the unit number, security deadbolt code, and two paid parking passes for the resort. We thought we were set! We have spent the last six weeks anticipating our stay on the beach, floating in the resort's lazy river, and basking in the sun.

On June 26, (less than 1 week before our stay was to begin) I received a call from VTC saying the resort was overbooked and we had been moved to another resort which was actually much nicer. When I went online to take a look at this resort, I found that it is a golf resort and NOT on a beach.

The beach is about a 10 minute drive according to a representative from this resort. We do not play golf and our 5 yr. old grandson wants to play in the ocean! Having to pack up the car with everything and drive to the beach is quite inconvenient. We like to go out for an hour or so, go do something else, then return to the beach. This is not feasible if you have to drive there, find parking, etc.

The representative from VTC seemed unwilling to help find other arrangements, or explain to us exactly WHY we were the ones being bumped and exactly why it took until 3 days before we leave to inform us.

I have such a bad taste regarding this company and would NEVER recommend this club to others. I can find just as good a deal on a condo online.

This is what we did last year and I only wish we'd done it this time. We could have saved ourselves a huge membership fee, had just what we wanted, and look forward to a relaxing week at the shore without all of this stress!

We finally have an ocean side beach resort as requested! It took lots of phone calls and emails and speaking to the manager, but the mgr. did pull through the night before we were to leave. We are actually booked at the original resort which was supposed to be overbooked. I do believe the manager worked very hard to secure a condo for us in the location we wanted. I feel a bit better knowing we have a reservation, but really need a vacation after all the stress of the past three days!
