The people that run this UPS store #4076 are a real piece of work. They are some the most vindictive and dishonest people I have ever met. First Joyce Liao, the owner's wife decides that she doesn't want to let me use the shredder in spite of having used it before. I then use scissors to cut up my sensitive correspondense. Another customer asks why I don't use the shredder. I said "because she won't let me". That other customer says he is taking his business elsewhere if they treat customers like that. The Liaos respond by cancelling my mailbox contract. I then reported that to the UPS Store corporate office. They retaliate against that by deciding to keep my packages!! Stealing to get even - how pathetic!!!

Also, be warned that they throw correspondense of ex-customers in the trash, open for any identity thief to access!

It's the owners that give false information

I never was contacted by the police and never threatened to tear up their store.  If a police report was made, it was a false report.  In fact, when I informed the US Postal Service of their behavior, they made an exception and forwarded my mail from a Personal Mail Box, which the Postal Service only does in unusual circumstances.

This former customer had a mailbox with our store.  He had asked us to shred his unwanted mailbox mail.  Our policy, at the time, was to shred only paper from our copiers.  The reason we don't do all types of shredding is that credit cards have jammed and broken our shredder once before.

When we told him of our policy, he became very rude and cut his unwanted mail to pieces and trashed them on the floor.  He also threatened to return after hours (he had 24/7 access as a mailbox holder) to further damage our store.  Because of this threat, we contacted the police and filed a report.  As a result of this, the police served him notice prohibiting him from coming within a certain distance of our store.

A few days later, he put up multiple signs on roads (about a mile away) that lead to our store stating that our store was a bad place to do business.  He also proceeded to file false accusations on this website, with the intention of hurting our business.

It should be noted that we had accommodated him several times in the past when he was late in his payments.  But because of his threats, we did cancel his mailbox and we disposed of his mail according to strict postal regulations.

We no longer have a shredder because we did not want this to happen again.  We don't want to keep spending money to replace shredders when they are misused.

The title of the response states, "The truth be told....". What truth is that? Was the police report filed by the customer or the business? Without "going into the detail of what actually happened", why is this report even filed here?? Readers need the details to develope an opinion, or this complaint can only be disregarded. Was the shredder there for public use? What reason would the owner describe to explain why a customer could not use a shredder? Was it just you? Was the item being shredded beyond the capabilities of that particular shredder? What? Another customer is going to change their habits just because a person isn't allowed to use a shredder?? Isn't that just a little absurd? A mailbox service is cancelled because of a dispute over a silly SHREDDER??? This complaint, as it stands, is ridiculous. There is obviously more to this incident than a shredder! The mailbox service, including the receipt of all mail and packages, is defined on the contract. Read it. Though the post office has limitations and restrictions with their P.O. boxes, the scenario at a The UPS Store would be handled the same as at a post office. By contract, the receiving agent has the right to keep mail or packages under certain situations. The mail and shipments can be held for up to six months if the contract is not in order, or the mail may be returned to the sender. Before six months, it is not 'thrown away'. After six month, it will be. You can verify this by speaking with any postmaster at your local post office. This is not police matter, as it appears you'll be finding out soon. If the shipments are via USPS, contact your local post office first for information and to know your rights and responsibilities. You could then take that information to small claims court if you still feel you were wronged. The judge IS going to ask you, however, for MORE DETAILS as to how a shredder could possibly escalate to this point and of the necessary details which you left out. Say now...is there a reason YOU left out those details?? You don't have a 'right' to use a shredder, but why would a business care if it was intended for public use and you used it? Why?? What are those details? Perhaps you could leave us the number to that business to validate your story. If more details of this scenario and that business phone number is not given here, we'll assume that the "truth be told" would only be an embarassment to the author of this complaint.
