Universal Healthcare Services International PLC Nichole Hoelscher CHECK CASHING FRAUD.... Deceptively Using Careerbuilder.com To Find Victims BEWARE!!! Picadilly Circus, W1B Internet
Just wanted to make everyone aware of this particular scam. I was contacted by this company through Careerbuilder.com. I was immediately skeptical, because I had not applied to this company, however I had been contacted for other legitimate opportunites this exact same way, so I gave it the benefit of the doubt.
The following are the two e-mail's I received. After the initial contact, I requested more detailed information. I am an Accountant and Business Consultant by profession with over 20 years of experience in the areas of Accounting and Finance Management. After receiving the second e-mail...ALL my sensors went off. The e-mail is loaded with RED FLAGS. I want to share a few of the inconsistencies I across.
FLAG #1. E-mail is loaded with grammatical errors
FLAG #2. Company does not list a phone number OR website. Any reputable company doing the volume of revenue they claim to be doing should have BOTH!!!. Also the e-mail came from an America Online address, NOT a company owned domain.
FLAG #3. They claim to have exclusive contracts with hospitals and other medical companies. So, why would these major company's be sending you checks in you in YOUR name to cash for payment. There are so many other options that companies would use for payment (i.e. wire transfers, monthly invoicing, etc...).
FLAG #4. Use of Western Union to send payments. Many scams that I come across use Western Union as the preferred form of payment. Why? It is very difficult to trace and does not provide sufficient documentation for the volume of transactions they want you to "process"
FLAG #5. Incentive to turn around payment. Company offers bonuses for sending payment to them faster. From same day payment to 48 hours. Most banking institutions will hold the funds on a check (especially an out of state check) for typically 3 to 7 business days. I know this because I typically process out-of state checks from some of my clients, and the hold is usually a week before funds are released into my available balance. Which means if you send payment to them in less then 24 hours, by the time that check clears your bank, or worse is the check is deemed non-payable, this company is long gone with YOUR money, including the "10% commission" and "bonus". Your bank will be looking for you to make good on the fraudulant funds.
