Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

You must be carefull when dealing with United Auto Credit.  If you have an unforunate event happen and you must return you financed vechile because you are unable to continue paying for it.

United Auto Credit will use any tactic they can to collect on the balance after selling the vechile.

Such as contacting your neighbors, relatives and anyone that is on the reference sheet, blantely stating to that person that they are trying to collect on a bill.  they leave message on a voice mail. They do this even if they have a good contact number to reach you at.

By law this is illegaly to discuss the reason for the call, they are only allowed to leave a message to contact.  I know this because I collected on past due bills myself.  Law says you are allowed to call once and if contact is made not call again, then if no contact you can call again 3 times.  If you call and leave a message on a voice mail you the collection caller can be sued because you are discussing private information on a voice mail that you are not sure it still belongs to that individual and also that another party not associated with the individual will or could here your collection call.  That is devalugance of privacy!

Their call tactics are deplorable.  In one day I received 12 calls from them.  There were 6 calls in a matter of 8 minutes on my phone.

I will agree with some other postings they are rude, do not listen to your explaination, and are relentless.

I have taken my own course of action with this company and they have been informed as of this date to not call any reference list on the sheet turned in with my application. Via their email site connect to their website I sent a A formal stop and decease of these calls immediately to my references from this date on from United Auto, any of its associated companies, or any person connected with them.  Also Informed United Auto that legal action action will be taken if they continue these tactics.

It is always amazing how the more someone goes out of their way to avoid paying their debts, the more "laws" they seem to THINK they know.

So let me educate you a bit.

You are correct there is the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act(FDCPA) that does state a 3rd party collection agency can not divulge the reason they are calling unless it is the person they are trying to contact.  In fact that is the only thing in this entire post you got right.  The problem is that UAC is considered an "Original Creditor" therfore the FDCPA does NOT apply to them.  So yes, they have every right to contact other people and in just about every case let them know why they are calling.

I find it quite interesting how you state you were once a debt collector.  As it is always amazing how many deadbeats were.  So let me ask you this.  When you talked to someone who owed a debt were you the one person who would listen to them?  Were you so nice that you were the one person who would do what ever they wanted because they were having a hard time?  And let me guess every single person you let pay the debt back on their own terms..paid it back 100%..right?   Uh huh...well if that was the case you would be wanted by every single collection agency for your huge success and it wouldn't be a case of you USED to work for one now would it.

I will agree with some other postings they are rude, do not listen to your explaination, and are relentless.

- Of course they are..it is THEIR money that you owe them.

- Ah the last defense of a Deadbeat the "Cease and DESIST" letter.  Well first in terms of what you are TRYING to do it is actually a "Cease Communication" letter.  Second.  Sending them a letter DOES NOT remove your liability for any debt.  Not only that but the only legal action you may see is them suing YOU for the deficency balance of the loan.  Oh and when you go to court trying to tell the judge you told them to not contact you about the debt...he will tell you this exact same thing.  The only difference there is that he will give you a 20 minute lecture on being responsible.
