Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

I bought a policy through Liberty National Life Insurance company 1/20/09. I then researched the company when I got home and was appalled by the things that I read here and on the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation. I read that in the last 12 months there had been 38 complaints lodged against this company.

I decided to cancel my policy. I called my sales rep this morning and informed her that I did not want to do business with this company and why I didn't want to do business with them

She said she would have to talk to her manager and call me back. So I waited.

A couple hours later her and her manager call me and her unit manager starts to tell me that I was misinformed and that I had not properly researched the company and that I need to research it through the Dept. of Financial Regulations if I wanted an accurate picture of the stability of the company. I explained to her that alot of the complaints had been customer service issues and that finances had nothing to do with customer service.

I told her I didn't want to do business with a company that I had any doubts about and to cancel my policy. She started to agrue with me about how misinformed I was, at which point I told her I was not changing my mind and she told me no worries and hung up on me.

Which only confirms the customer service issues. I called my sales rep back and informed her that I needed something in writing pertaining to the cancellation and that my account would not be charged. She did fax me what I requested.

Later this afternoon I was called by the Regional Manager who started yelling at me about the fact that I got my info from this website and it wasn't posted by their customers but by their competors. I told him at that point that even if it was wrong that he and the other manager where trying to bully me into keeping a policy I do not want and that the company as a whole was leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

Everyone should beware of this company and I should have investigated before signing any paperwork. Which I of course told the sales people I wanted to do before buying the health insurance and they offered to bring up the torchmark web page for me.

Where to start? First, I recently retired with LNL and also reside in Florida. Selling a couple of hundred policies a year, I have ran into people like you on more than one occasion. Considering that LNL sells over 100,000 policies a WEEK it wouldn't be out of line to have 38 complaints. I would consider that pretty darn good in any type of sales. Next, there is no such thing in Florida as the Dept. of Financial Regulation. The activities of insurance companies falls under Alex Sink's dept. which is the FLDFS (Florida Dept. of Financial Services). They also would have referred you to the Florida Insurance Commissioner as FLDFS only relates to licensing and regulation compliance. If you are to stretch the truth, at least make an attempt at being creditable. Some would be lead to believe that if you went to all the trouble to write this that it must be true. There are several thing brought out here that I know are not correct, having worked with liberty for over 20 years. first, the agent is not allowed to send a notice of cancellation for a couple of reasons 1) There is no such animal. 2) They are trained to refer you to the H/O customer service dept. 3) why would an agent want to spend time and money on a lost cause? 4) Had a death occurred after you verbally canceled a policy, there would be a "he said, she said" lawsuit. An insurance policy is a FORMAL contract that must have an exact beginning and an exact end. It just doesn't "hold water". You said you went home and looked up the company under the "Florida office of insurance regulation" again, there is no such entity in Florida. I would be willing to bet that either one of two thing happened here: 1) you bought more insurance than you could afford while you were at work and either you or the husband/wife insisted you call and cancel it or 2) you bought insurance when you were at a friend or relitives house and didn't intend to keep it to start with and were just showing off for the friends/relatives. Yep, having written thousands of polisies with LNL, i have ran into your type more than once.

Anastasia:  It's probably a wise move for you not to work for LN.  It is a quite expensive company to work for and it sounds like you don't have a lot of money.

If somehow you do go to work for them, here is a laundry list of items you will have to buy:  First, you'll need a capable car as you'll be putting a lot of miles on it.  Next, you'll need a current lap-top computer as LN's software requires quite a bit of memory and a large hard drive.  Figure on spending around $500.00.  You'll also need a GPS unit costing around $100.00.  You may or may not have to pay for your insurance agents license,  I don't know what that costs in Florida.  You'll have to buy your own business cards.  LN does not supply these.  Figure on $15.00 or more.  The gas for your car will cost probably $15  - $20 per day for several months.  You'll have to buy all of your office supply type things, figure on $30 - $50.00.  If you don't already have a brief case, you'll need one.  Figure on $100.00.  As you can see, going to work for LN is going to cost you around $1,000.00 at the get-go.  This does not cover everything but most things.  You may have to upgrade your wardrobe for instance.

If you already have these things, good! but if you don't, don't go in debt.  LN does not guarantee any income and you may not make very much.  For instance, my last two checks were $12 and $14.  That doesn't even come close to paying the utilities.
