I purchase a Umax Scanner Astra 2000U at Best Buy in Dec 1999 with a rebate coupon which I mail in before the deadline 1/31/2000.

I received a postcard rejection due to postmark date. I mailed the rebate 4 days before the deadline. Now Umax wants proof of me mailing it before the deadline.

How do you prove you mailed a rebate before the deadline unless you register mail it - which I did not.

The rebate ID is 2283525. I have till 4/29/2000 to respond. There address is Invalids Dept 753 PO Box 615, Coppell, Tx 75019 888-724-9273. What can I do? Scotty Baker

This email is a rebuttal to RipOff #1718. It was sent by Herman Jacobs at [email protected] Umax Scanner Regbate Rip-off(#1718) Umax (Computer Manufaturers) 3/28/00 (Last Modified: 3/28/00) They filed the following Consumer Help to the above Rip-Off Report: Their email: [email protected] Their name: Herman Jacobs Their relationship to the company: Supporter Rebuttal: Dear Mr. Baker and rip-off report, I am NOT associated either with UMAX or with Parago, Inc. (the Coppell, Texas rebate fulfillment company which operates the rebateshq.com site and which processed this particular rebate promotion for UMAX). Without taking sides in your dispute, based on my own recent experience with Parago, it appears to me (as a reasonably objective observer) that you might well deserve to receive the rebate you requested and that it is possible, or even likely, that Parago has mishandled your rebate request. Therefore, since Parago is now in possession of the the postmarked envelope which shows the date on which you mailed your rebate request, you should insist that Parago immediately send you a copy of the postmarked envelope in which you mailed that rebate request. If Parago refuses to send you a copy of your postmarked envelope, please email me at [email protected], and I will send you the telephone numbers of a person at Parago who, I believe, will be inlcined to intercede to make sure you are treated fairly. Good luck.
