Hello, I read your experience and I am sorry to hear that. I think my positive experience with Uhaul had much to do with the dealer that I dealt with. When I made my reservation, I requested a new truck with new tires, I told the nice lady behind the counter that I was driving cross country alone and into some pretty desolate places, that I needed something very reliable. She agreed and made sure that I got a new truck. Once on the road, as I was driving through a desolate highway, a man kept following me. I stopped at the first gas station that I saw and he stopped too. He told me that I had a tire blow out and I thanked him. It turns out the wight of the truck and load was completely on the second set, this is why I didn't notice it. I called the costumer service department and they had a man and his girlfriend come out and replace my tire for me. This was a Sunday afternoon and I had interrupted their bbq. Still, they were really nice and he whent as far as checking all my fluids as well. I made it to my destination without any more problems. Upon returning the truck, the people on the other end were really nice too. All in all, I had a great experience with Uhaul. I think that much of it had to do with the dealers as well as my requesting a new truck.

Hi Kim, We had issues with U-Haul when we moved to Buffalo--nothing as frightening as yours, but problems getting us our equipment at the scheduled time that also resulted in our having to spend the night at a hotel (an un-budgeted moving expense). We phoned the company after returning the truck & were told there was nothing they could do, but after we complained quite a bit, wrote letters, etc., we too were offered U-Haul coupons as recompense. And our reaction was the same as yours--as if we're going to use U-Haul again. What I wish we'd done was this--and anyone considering this company might take heed--complain directly to the operator of the outlet when you return the truck. I didn't do this because it wasn't this poor guy's fault, it was the outlet from which we rented the truck, etc., etc., etc. Some friends of ours who moved the same weekend had to drive from NYC to Vermont to Buffalo in June with no A/C because it broke on their rental truck. She complained directly to the manager of the return outlet (same one as mine) & was reimbursed for a good deal of the cost of the rental (I don't remember how much exactly; it was a few years ago). Anyway, that doesn't much help you, but it might help others in the future. And I'm really glad you got to Wyoming in one piece!
