Summer 2005. I am a student at Manchester University. Due to general student expenses and a few other things I have no money and am near the limit of my overdraft. I am staying in Manchester and applying for a few diferent jobs. After numerous interviews and being rejected for not having enough sales experience, I find an advert for Tuscan Marketing in the Metro newspaper. I ring up and get invited for an interview the next day.

I turn up promptly for the interview and have to wait around for over an hour. Ali Mir appears and, after a little talk about "human commercials" etc, basically tells me to come tomorrow for the "obsevation day". I still have no idea what I am supposed to be doing.

I turn up for the observation day and, after getting given a huge spiel about the Cobra Group and how great it is, get sent to Huddersfield with my leader, one Somtee Benokeke (i think that is how you spell it). Here I find out what the company is all about - door to door charity sign ups. My leader keeps talking about how he earns up to 500 per week, is the assistant owner and is going to be opening his own office and trebling his earnings by the end of the summer. All very impresive.

He only drops two pieces. That is, he signs two people up. He then goes around to a friends house and signs two more up there. I was assured i would be back by 8:30 but that was just a lie. I get back to the office at around 9:30 and don't leave until after 10:30. I am told I have the job and I jump at it as I have had nothing but rejections for about a month and am pretty desperate.

On my first day, I am taken to Blackburn with Julian. He was a funny, very charismatic guy who you couldn't help but like. He drops a few pieces. I get three. I am told this is good for a first day and we both "ring the bell" when we get back. This is the last time i do this.

After that, I went out with a few different leaders, all trying to show me their own way of doing things. Some were doing well, others fantastically. Most were doing OKish. One, Dave Masey, took us out for a Saturday sell out. During this time, I am guessing he had an altercation with Ali and left the company. We were left stranded and had to make our own way back. Enquiring about him seemed forbidden, and, whereas his name had been mentioned almost daily before, he was never mentioned again.

I quickly found out that the working day wasn't 11:30 - 8 like i had been told. More like 10:30 - 10:30.

Over the couse of the summer, I never got more than three pieces in a day. One week, I only got two in the entire week. The next week, I was sent to Norfolk on a road trip by Somtee, who had been ignoring me most of the time. I got about 13 pieces that week but I only got paid for around 7 since we had to pay for accomodation which, I was told, would be around 50 but it was nearer 80.

Ali Mir took me into his office and basically told me how how much i was earning, and that i should be earning more. I agreed and would come in early the next week. I came in at 9:30, but was basically ignored or passed around until 10:30, where we were given the same drivel every day: KISS - keep it short an simple, SEE - Smile, enthusiasm, eye contact. It was like a cult. The pyramid scheme to the top always seemed ludicrus abut somehow attainable.

I went on anther road trip to Telford and this is when things got really bad. I had only ben averaging between 60 and 100 per week. One week i only got 22. This doesn't really add up when travel is over 5 per day and bill are mounting up. I went over my overdaft limit. Getting fines from the bank and not being able to buy food (i was living off the "reduced to clear" section of tesco, if i got home before it closed), i ended up in Telford, again paying 80 for accomodation. I managed a new personal best but was stil told to do better.

Then there was conference. A stupid awards show with obviously fake motivationla speaches and hundreds of little glass awards being given out. The night, in London was basically an excuse for people to show off how much money they had. Having none, I sat in my room.

Then crunch time came. I was away for a weekend so took a while off. I could just not bear to go back afterwards so I lived for three weeks off 40, which was far easier than working 12 hour days. Working for Tuscan was the worst experince of my life. Just avoid it, and other Cobra Group companies.

I've read the above and to think for 2yrs while running one of the offices i convinced people to follow a goal / dream of an oppitunity to run there own business. I'm sad and upset for what i did. I started in Reading in 2004 and was caught up in the atmosphere like many others were, my leader then got promoted and took me with him to woking and from there i ended up in swansea where i was promoted. This oppitunity, this business holds so many dark and horrifying stories that are quickly covered up i hold so many nasty secrets i find it hard to sleep. For people reading this please who work in or used to work within this business, look at yourself and ask- do you see your family as much as you used to or friends for that matter. I'll tell you something becoming an "owner" means nothing because as i found out you are still owned. There's small print that you dont see your business account is a joint account you have with your promoting owner you cant do nothing with it unless they say so bet you didn't know that. So let me intrest you in a few little facts 1) Your future in the business depends on your sales and attitude- fact 2) Your told your special and given attention when you start - people love attention 3) Expect to make very little money and i'll explan why you ready for example lets say the client pays the company 55 per sale You get ummm 27.50 (half for example) the company gets half then deduct 40% from that and you get 16.50 now as the average sale per day is 2.2.. per week you'll pick up 181 per week. Per month - 726 Per year - 8,712 So you see as an owner i made alot but my f.r's made peanuts less than minimum wage less than a toilet cleaner fact. I was told by other owners higher up to do things i thought moraly wrong but did them anyway. Oh and if you didn't already know if the owner dont like you, your goin nowhere, please for people in an out the business who want to know anything about this business ask me i'll tell you the truth. i know everything there is to know and i'll tell you this the happiest day of my life was the day i left and spent quality time with my family and friends. Let me list a few home truth's for you OBSERVATIONS 1. You pay for them your owner makes money from them 2. You dont retain the ob its your fault (and dont expect another for awhile) 3. No obs no team no promotion 4. As the owner i pick who gets the ob usually based on likeness in personality 5. If your guy blows guess what yep your fault Understand your to blame if it goes wrong not the "owner" lol but the owner makes money so who wins - OWNER CREW NIGHTS 1. Who pays yep you do, who makes yep the owner 2. If your guy has hangover who's fault - yours 3. If guy has great day in the field your not blamed owner makes money woohoo lol AWARDS I had the pleasure of picking people for awards let me tell you how it works 1. Who will still be round when rally comes up. 2. Who should i retain give them one 3. Who do i get on with give them one I hated myself so much for what i did but i'm willing to tell you anything you want to know about this business ANYTHING lol. INTERVIEWS 1. Who looks easy to get to start 2. We will take on anyone who wants to do it 3. We dont read your C.V's there pointless we just want you to knock on a door and sell 4. Good lookin women attract guys to the business retain them by paying them more. So you see these are a few things i will tell you, but like i said ask me and i'll tell. People honestly you want a job knocking on doors which is the easiest job to get. work directly for an company not through this kinda company, you get a salary plus commission. you remember the maths at the top of this page well when a company pays you 55 per sale thats what you get because theres no company to take half from you. Take care people my best wishes in the future.

Hi, I once worked for a company under the same umbrella as tuscan called BMF Marketing run by MD Fayez Amlani. Now I can assure anyone reading this that Fayez started his company from nothing... from knocking on doors each day working on a commission and some days earning nothing just like the muppet that commented before had said. However, I knew what i was going into, just like he did if he was honest. Back to Tuscan, I had the pleasure of meeting MD Michael Scully at that award ceremony mentioned and it certainly was not tacky glass awards. I watched cheques for over 500k being awarded and was also there for the promotion of Michael and also Simon Murphy to vice presidents which included a nice bonus of watches worth in excess of 25k. Seeing Chris Niarcos and his Ferrari Racing team outside Wembly Arena and VP Kelly Mcloquin (excuse the spelling Kelly) who is the most vibrant and I suppose rich person I have shook hands with. He outbid Ronaldo (yes, the Ronaldo) on a house then knocked it down.... just for a better view!! He only collects Ferrari's and Rolex's for fun, but not a bad hobby and yes he started off knocking on doors just like Mike or Simon I had mentioned now both MMs. Thats Multi Millionaires by the way. However, you do need to be sales orientated to do this job, being loud and outgoing would be an extra bonus, but the will to suceed will I almost guarantee you will get you a long way within this firm. Also, a shout out to John at JHD Marketing, Bristol. Another fine and very sucessfull company well worth getting involved with. Jon Ex Employee BMF Marketing Brighton
