Dear C. Checkey:

I am responding to your letter of Oct.16, 2002.I have been able to obtain some additional information about the disputed charge to my account from Treehouse Marketing. I did authorize a charge of $19.90 to my account for a smoking cessation product from these people. I was told at the time there were two ways I could purchase this product and given the options I chose to purchase a trial size product for the sum of $19.90. I was also told that if I wanted to continue with the larger size I would have to call their toll free number and let them know. I received the shipment 2 weeks later and decided I was not going to use it but neglected to return it at the time.

About a month later I noticed a charge to my account from Treehouse Marketing in the amount of $199.95. I could not think of anything this charge was related to and I knew I had not authorized the amount so I contacted Chase and protested it. I later, while searching the Internet for information on Treehouse Mkt., found a web site called The Rip Off Report. Here I found out that I was not the only one who had fallen for this scam. It seems as if Treehouse operates using some very questionable if nit illegal practices. I, like many of the others, was not informed that they were going to charge my account an additional amount of $199.95 at the end of 30 days and I certainly never authorized them to do so.

I have tried the toll free number for Treehouse Mkt numerous times in the last three weeks and have only been greeted with a constant busy signal. I am going to mail the product back to them by registered mail this week, return receipt requested. I realize it will be expensive but I want proof that they received it and the date it arrived. I am willing to eat the $19.90 charge I originally agreed to but I don't think I should have to absorb the charge for $199.95. I did not authorize this charge and should not be liable for it.

Sincerely,

So, what is your brilliant excuse in my case where the product shipment was delayed several weeks and your company doesn't seem to have any record of when it was shipped to me directly from another country OR when I received it here in the U.S.? I'm being told by Tree House Marketing that the overseas company isn't cooperating with them by giving this tracking information, so now it's just my word against yours. I have all my ducks in a row, including the return signature and date of return to your company, but now I'm being told you're JUST NOT QUITE SURE I returned the item within the alloted time period since you really don't even know what that time period is. WHAT A CONVENIENT EXCUSE AND CLEVER METHOD! Your company debited my account for the remaining amount of $199.95 only 2-3 days after I finally received your product WITHOUT giving me the 30 day trial period AND I was lied to about the harmful stimulant I was specifically assured it didn't contain. Now you have the unopened and unused product back AND $220.00 of my money! GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN, SEAN...UNLESS YOUR LAST NAME IS TURLEY, THEN YOU MIGHT WANT TO STAY AND ENJOY THE RICHES OF YOUR COMPANY'S EVIL SCAM!

If you have PROOF that it was RECEIVED back within the 30 day time fram, treehouse should be more than willing to refund your money, if you don't have that proof that it was RECEIVED back within 30 days, then that is your problem, not Treehouse's. Regards

I ordered maminrex the breast enhancer pill for 19.90 for the first fee, then after the month they said they would charge me 199.90 if i didn't return the product. The thing is that I did return the product on time and even insured it and had a paper come back saying that they recieved it back. Then I called them and they said that the credit card wouldnt be charged. So then a month later after that i notice on my bank statement that they just recently charged my card!! I am mad and i want my money back!

Compliance Script

Treehouse marketing using a compliance script, most people do not listen to the script, in the script, they say that the trial version, is just that, a trial, and if treehouse has not received it back within 30 days, a remaining amount will be charged to the account. It is generally a recorded call, in fact, the employee tells them, I am about to record this portion of the call. So anyone complaining about unwarranted charges, might want to check before agreeing to anything. I think the person that originally posted this may have wanted to do some real research before complaining about something, he authorized.
