why did I book it that way ?-- I don't schedule flight plans and that's how that flight came up: Non-stop from LAX to FRA with Lufthansa and back via London with two different airlines. And that terrorist theorie does not make sense to me at all: it was not about checking the luggage in at FRA and boarding in London. That's almost like you want to say that passengers have to go through Frankfurt if they want to fly from London to LAX because the screeners in London are morons... And since it is obviously possible ... for a $ 250 fee... it can't be a security issue, it is about extra revenue. A 30 seconds computer job for the price of an entire flight.

If the return flight was inconvenient for you, why did you book it that way? I would guess the refusal to let you board in London without taking the Frankfurt to London segment may be due more to Homeland Security than a desire to screw you over for fees.
