After sepnding $366.22 on 2/23/08, for two bikes that were assembled wrong, we had to return to the store, which is 15-miles away, 5 times for corrections. The most recent time was April 26th because the kickstand on the more expensive Schwinn Traverse snapped in half, causing the bike to fall and twisting and jamming the rear caliper brakes. Despite the fact that we were well within the 90-day exchange (64-days), the manager refused to take back the bike. Instead of giving us a replacement kickstand off of the display model, he is making us return to the store for a 6th time, after it eventually gets in, to pick up the new part. This was not our only problem.

First, they failed to meet the delivery date for our birthday party. But instead of calling, we wasted a trip to the store. Chalk up 2 -trips. Next they assembled the bikes incorrectly. Chalk up another trip. Then the wheel on the smaller bike broke. Now we are at trip 4.

Trpi #5 was when we returned the more expensive Schwinn for the snapped kick stand and were told no exchanges or refunds. They managed to untangle the rear brakes --hope they are not defective or dangerous now. But said "you have to come back a 6th time, after we call you when the kick-stand arrives" Still waiting for that phone call. I am betting it will never come.

With gas at $3.59 a gallon, this has been an expensive lesson.

Bike Assemblers are horrible

I don't agree with the ex-employees comments. This was the bike assemblers problem. If you read the reviews for the bikes you will see it most always is the way the bike is assembled that causes the problem. The derailers aren't tightened the gears skip the brakes need to be adjusted the gears need to be adjusted etc. These bike assemblers just put the bike together they don't adjust anything.

Common sense tells you that the assembly is not the reason your wheel broke, and you broke in hlf your kick stand. I can read you from a mile away, you are angry that your kids are hard on their bikes, you spent a good chunck of change on the bikes and think Toys R Us should replace your kids destruction for life.....should have bought the warrenty, and count your blessings they are replacing the kick stand at all. By the way if you ordered something for your birthday party that gripe would be with Toys R Us online, not the store, it is operated as two seperate companies.
