Stay far away from this woman! Do not let her near your kids!
There are many in-home day care facilities in our town, and many of them nice, legit ones. Sarah Duke (or "Tom Sarah Duke" on Facebook) is NOT one of them. She was recommended to us via Facebook, but what I saw left me feeling sick.
Not only was she not even at the house when I arrived, but she had about ten to twelve very small children being looked after by an 11-year-old while she was gone! Evidently, she does this every single day, a couple times a day, while she runs errands. She didn't even think that was a big deal when I pointed out how scary that is! Do these other parents know that she is leaving their babies alone with an 11-year-old?
The small children that I saw all looked like they were in poor shape; filthy, sodden diapers hanging off their poor little butts, half dressed, if at all...etc.
A small girl (maybe 4 years old) was the one who answered the door, which was not locked. At least, I didn't hear her unlock it. I told her "you shouldn't be answering the door sweetie" and she said how strong she was and then proudly showed me how she could also open the BACK door- which led to an in-ground pool! The pool had to be at least 6 feet deep and extremely dangerous with all of the unsupervised kids around. As she opened that door, about 6 huge dogs came barreling in the house barking and growling.
I got out of there fast. But from what I saw the place was disgusting. Dog hair everywhere, garbage and dead bugs on the ground, a stockpile of medicine on a coffee table where kids could reach, and a sharp knife on the couch next to an apple. This was a mother's worst nightmare!
Before I left, I saw about 4 of the kids come out the front door and start to walk down the street, without even so much as shoes on their feet. I yelled out the window for them to go back in the house and wait for Sarah, and thank god they listened. I asked the 11-year-old to please lock the door.
I reported what I saw to CPS. I believe there is a law about how many kids a person is allowed to watch. I doubt that Sarah Duke is even licensed though, so I do not know what they will do with the case. I know she herself has like 5 or 6 kids. She should not be allowed to watch anyones children ever, and in my opinion, doesn't even seem fit for the children she has.
When looking for someone to take care of your precious babies while you are away, it is a very hard decision. Parents have a lot of fears when our children are out of our sight. Sarah Duke is a living nightmare of how terrible a babysitter can be. I hope someone shuts her down before something unthinkable happens.
