My wife, who does not speak English, acquiered a Title loan for $1150.00 from TitleMax. I translated for her. she made a payment on 08/17/2017 for $217.00 to Facio Vivian of TitleMax. The receipt details showed the following:

Total paid today $217.00 (Handling Fee $61.91, Acquisition Charge paid $100.00) Paid to principal $55.00. The receipt shows the principal balance as $1050.41 and ends with Total balance today $ 1050.41. I don't see the $55.00 deduction refected on the ending balance. We did not notice the error on the reciept at that time.

On 09/20/2017 she made the next payment of $220.00. The rep., Samantha Alvarez, for TitleMax said they had changed over to a new receipt system that does not show beginning balance or ending balance.

It shows Payee: TitleMax; Borrower: Magdalena Gardea de Salas, Payment amount $220.00, Payment date 09/20/2017. She wrote in the ending balance of $ 1,078.04. The loan balanced had increased. When I asked for an explanation she said the ending balance was actuall the payoff balance- if the loan was paid off today. That made no sense to us.

I asked what was the actual begining balance? She kept referring to the payoff balance and was never able to give me that information. She did show me on her computer screen that $138.00 had been deducted from the principal balance this month (09/20/2017) yet it did not reflect that amount either.

We've had 2 other Title Loans from them in the past 3 years. They do have a high turnover rate for employees because my wife is always asking for the rep who took her payment last time and the new reps inform her that they don't work there anymore. Whether that is an indication of anything of value-we don't know.

I ask the current rep to give me the address or phone number of the Govermental Agency who oversees this type of Title Loans but she did not have it or could get it for me. She did inform us that we had to talk to the Regional Manager first and he could explain the contract to us and then if we still insisted then he could give us the numbers where we could call.

We feel that perhaps we've been manipulated by this company and subjected to long-worded contracts with jargon that we, as laypeople. cannot ever hope to decipher or understand. We would like take this matter further with authorized govermental agencies or whomever can help us. In the meantime we'll keep paying, we don't want to forfeit our vehicle for non-payment. We have never been late on a payment in the last 3 years.
