Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

I have been with my bank for 16 years, since 1997.  I also used them for years, since about 1987, through 1994, until I moved out of state.  But, I have moved back to my hometown, and have been using this bank again since 1997.

I have a VISA debit card issued by my bank which I have used all over for years.  I recently made a small purchased, of about $22, through Amazon for a DVD and a book.  I also have my own Amazon credit card, with a high credit limit.  But, since I've only just paid off that credit card, I thought I would make this minor $22 purchase directly through my bank account, using my debit card online.

I placed the order, and it appeared to go through just fine. But a day or two later, I received this strange message that TeleCheck (whom I had NEVER heard of before) somehow intercepted my order, and declined my purchase. I first tried calling them, to no avail. Only heard a voice recording, and it was late at night.  So, I called Amazon directly, and the girl said that they do use TeleCheck to check on their payments.  However, she was going to process my order again, directly on the phone. I gave her the same ATM card, and she said that it went through, and that my order should ship in about two days.  Well, that day came today, and I received ANOTHER email from TeleCheck, saying that "it was declined". I became furious, and called them directly. Not wanting to deal with a CSR, I asked to speak to a manager to get to the bottom of this nonsense.  He right away said that my name "is on THEIR list, and that if I paid them $499, they'd take my name off the list".  I told them where they could go, and told him to elaborate what list he was talking about, as I have used my ATM card all over.  He refused to answer.  All he said was that if I gave them $499, my name would be taken off a list.

I am afraid to use my card now anywhere, for fear of being rejected.  This is embarrassing, unjust, and completely infuriating. Now I have to write my Attorney General to see if SHE can bar them from being used by any businesses in my state.  I've already reported them to the BBB, but I don't know what good any of this is going to do.  This is monstrous.  Those sons of bitches should be put in jail....every one of them.  I've read other reports here on them, and they are wreaking utter chaos on everyone's lives with their illegal, entirely unfounded practices.

I used to work for telecheck.  This doesn't sound like them at all.  $499 dollars to have your name taken off a list is extortion....that is....unless you have bounced a check in that amount and have as yet to make good on it.  Better do what the guy above said to do... but I'd take it a step further.  Get a copy of your credit reports NOW AND I MEAN NOW!!!  Go over them with a fine tooth comb.  LEAVE NOTHING TO QUESTION.  If you find something wierd, it'll stick-out like a sore thumb.  You'll see something fishy immediately IF there's something fishy there.

Good Luck!

Caution this doesn't sound like telecheck. No I am not defending them. The $499.000 sounds like a scam. It sounds like your checking account & debit card may have been compromised. I would recommended getting both new checking account & new debit card & also put a fraud alert on your old checking account. Don't use the new checking account at merchants online.
