I received a Christmas gift from a friend who bought the item from Target. It was a Hometrics Foot Spa. The item was defective. I have owned various types of this same kind of item and didn't like them. When I tried to return the item to Target I was informed that I could exchange it for the same thing or something in that department.

I didn't want anything from that department and I asked if I could just have a store credit. They said no. I had to buy something in the same department that night or take back my merchandise. (They were also only offering sales price instead of full price.)

I emailed Target and asked them to please reconsider because I am a devoted Target shopper and they would make more money from me anyway because I would end up spending more then they were giving back on my store credit and they would be giving me something I would be happy with. They said no. The Executive Officers have made a new rule and that was it.

In my opinion, noone should ever buy a gift for anyone at Target because if the person is not happy with the item Target will not exchange it for something they want. I see Target going the same way K-Mart did. In my case the Return Manager was also very rude and told me that if I didn't like their policy I could always go to the manufacturer to fix the item.

They filed the following rebuttal to the above Rip-Off Report: Their email: [email protected] Their relationship to the company: Advocate Rebuttal: I work for a company called Qualex, which is the 1 hour photolab. I do know that the new return policy is a pain in the a*s and has caused alot of problems. But the change was mentioned months in advance. Target has been ripped off many times by allowing people to return items that they actually didn't buy, that they picked up from the store. They are still good about it. If you have the gift reciept, you are limited. If you have the normal reciept, you can do whatever you like within 90days. If you bought it by creditcard, or giftcard (and still have it), they can look it up and do a refund which would be credit back to your creditcard. If you paid cash, and don't have a reciept, you SOL. Try ebay. I've seen pissed off people at target, and I'm actually happy they did it, it causes problems, and I get to watch people fight with target team members over it.
