Myself and a business friend were both employed by Take One, Inc. dba John Robert Powers in SLC, UT. Take One, Inc. is made of by partners of Woodbury Corporation and Ron Kronig and Stephen Feder who also works for Prudential Prestige Real Estate in the Salt Lake community.
In march of 2000 there were 7 people who did not receive their paychecks on time. When we did receive them we immediately as a group went to Zions Bank (1401 S Foothill Dr.)to cash our checks. While we were there a branch representative called over to JRP to verify that they had written these hand signed checks. At that time a representative of the company Elizabeth Bailey-Durst told the branch and put a freeze on all the funds in the account.
We then had a heated discussion with the baking manager and she advised us to call the company. We then called over to JRP where Ron Kronig told us that we were not going to get paid today because he needed to move some funds to the payroll account. So we all decided to deposit these checks into our personal accounts and within a couple of days all checks had cleared but two.
Mine and my business friend, both of our banks took too long and then returned our checks as "Account Closed- Refer to maker". By this time I was starting to have checks bounce and getting hit with $22 fees for every check. I called back to JRP to inquire why and Ron stated that he would reimburse us for the checks but not for the bank fees. I then tried to get a new check issued from Elizabeth, however she said that Ron had told her not to pay us for anything.
In the meantime we tried contacting Stephen and he said that he would talk to Ron about this situation. When we got back a hold of Ron he said that he "would not" pay us and that we would have to go through the Woodbury's or the legal system.
We then contacted the Better Business Bureau which we found to be of NO help. Our next step was "The State of Utah Labor Commission" where we talked with Betty Barrett a Wage Claims Specialists and she said we had to file our paperwork and wait for the process, so we did.
After the Labor Commission sent out it 1st registered mail to the employer there was NO response and then 45 days later a second notice and still NO response. This put JRP in default. But then a few days later they sent a response asking for continuation and were granted 2 weeks. They then failed to respond again in a timely manner and were in default again.
Betty told us that this was good for us and that things looked good, however, we had to go to court. So the state appointed an attorney to this case, he sent us a letter a few weeks later stating that there was nothing he could do. So we contacted him and provided him with more beneficial information and he said that things were looking good, again. When we got a letter back from the attorney it said that Ron had fled the country and there was nothing further he could help us on.
However, the business is still in business with the same TV & Radio ads and the same Phone #. All this trouble and they only owe me approx 1600.00 and my partner 1500.00 . Woodbury Corp alone is worth over $400 MILLION, so I ask what is $3000 to these people. We still haven't given up we contacted a private attorney that said he might be able to help, it has been a couple of months again and no good news yet. So our next best bet is to publish the wrong-doing of this company on the web at what I have found to be the best site for corrupt businesses. www.badbusinessbureau.com and hopefully someone out there can give us some help or at least some good pointers as what to do.
I just hope that all who read this DO NOT do business with this franchise or the people listed above who work for this company.
In no way am I saying that the corporate offices of JRP or their many other reputable franchises are corrupt just the local privately owned franchise in Salt Lake City.

The comments made by myself and a current John Robert Powers employee were NOT made to dispute whether the incidents that took place in 2000 did or did not happen or that it doesn't currently warrant the feelings of wrong doing to the people involved. What was stated was that the problems detailed in the 2001 report, happened in 2000, over 4 years ago, and that it happened under a completely different corporation, Take One, Inc.s ect, ownership. This wasn't a change in the company's board of directors, it was a change in ownership - JRP Profiles, dba John Robert Powers. Our comments were made to let the public know we are not the corporation that caused those problems. It is frustrating also to franchise owners of John Robert Powers when some "bad apples" in this business cause those of us who ARE working diligently to run a business honestly and to the best of our ability to deal with, an overcome their bad reputations. We will run radio ads and operate similary by the John Robert Powers National standards because it is in compliance with our franchise agreements but the fact remains, we are a different company and operate apart and separately from Take One and any of the people they employed at that time. I sincerely feel what the details of the report filed in 2001 from the incidents in 2000 are unfortunate. I will work diligently to be sure nothing like it happens to our employees.

First if you look at the dates when filed by me. It was in 2001. Four years later would be 2005. Already you are caught in yet another LIE. If you would like a retraction of any statement then I suggest you make good on all debts owed by the company. Whether or not you change board of directors or otherwise. I am tired of American businesses running up bills, changing the board of directors. Then claiming that it was not them and walking away. You are still running under the name of JRP in Salt Lake and Until payment is received Bob and I will continue to feel scammed and burned by this company. We did the work and would like nothing further than what is due and promised. I ask for NO interest or harm. In fact I would be willing to forgive all bank fees if we could just get our payroll without all the BS and hoops you wish to put us through. Also Robbi, I do not know you but Elizabeth does very well and I am sure she could make you aware our skills of video editing and creativity which got an unprecidented number of kids hired in a single selection. I (Dennis) along with Bob are the reason you have your video screen, Video cameras, and internet hooked up in your office. I know I personally did the work. Now you are enjoying the benefits without ever having to make any payments. I have a case STILL PENDING with Utah labor Commision on this matter. If you are serious about clearing this up then I suggest you take steps to contact the labor commision under John Robert Powers and make ammends. I will then in return send you a letter stating that all is well and print any retraction necessary to any and all statements.

John Robert Powers Salt Lake City has been owned and operated by the VP of John Robert Powers International for over 4 years now and yet this old, old, old, report still exists. I am currently the Regional Director for Salt Lake City JRP and have been for 1 year. The company is upright and every employees payroll has been paid with out incident. It is time to get on board with John Robert Powers 2004/2005! It's awesome and we look forward to an even brighter future in Salt Lake City!!

This rip off report was files over 4 years ago. JRP SLC has since then broken any relationship between them and Take One Inc. Ron (the past owner) is also not affiliated with JRP SLC any longer. The new owner is the VP of John Robert Powers International and he also owns 3 other schools throughout the U.S. Since the new ownership JRP SLC has had no problems whatsoever regarding employees or payroll. I have been an employee with JRp for a year now and have had no problems with my checks. JRP SLC is not ripping off employees and is not even owned by the same people as when this report was filed. I just wanted to set the record straight.
