His listing for a 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado simply reads "like new, no rust, everything works". The listing also said that the interior was leather. The price that they are asking would be in line with a similar car in "good condition. It sounded promising so I called. The owner, Moses, called me back and when I asked him to confirm that indeed the car had no rust and that everything works worked he said that there was no rust anywhere on the car and that all the mechanicles did work. I explained that I was an out of town buyer and that I would be paying for for an inspection. Knowing better than to trust in what is advertised or even promised , I paid the Lemon Squad $270.00 to inspect the car and provide pictures and a written legal report. Thank goodness I did because the car was full of rust, old rivited on patch panels and body filler. The pictures showed partially exposed patch panels with rivets on the lower fenders, rust holes in the trunk and floorboards. Visible rust on the A pillars and around the rear window. The report also said that the inspector found that the: AC, headlights, taillights, windshield washer, power seats, clock, dash lights, and some of the power windows, did not work. The pictures and report also described the cosmetics as poor, or worn and in need of repair. Also, the interior was advertised  as leather and it was found to be vinyl.  The overall visual condition was described the poor. The overall ranking of the car was described as a "project car", and far from the "like new" as described in the listing and reiterated by Moses over the phone.

I think that it is only fair that I get my $270.00 reimbursed by Superior Auto Center for the gross misrepresentation of the car. If they were at all honest with me about the rust, I would have passed on the car without paying for the inspection. If nothing else, this will be a warning to anyone else responding to one of their listings.
