On Saturday, August 8th of 2006, two young men came to my door, and introduced themselves as a farm league baseball team from Columbus. They claimed to be fundraising for a trip to Tokyo for exposition games, and that Barnes and Noble was helping them by offering discounts on magazine subscriptions through Sunshine Subscriptions.

They first asserted that they only needed to discuss the sale of magazines with me, so to humor them I allowed them into my home. They stated that they get a number of "points" for talking to people, and that if I signed up to recieve a magazine, I could send the reciepts to the above address, and although I cancelled, they would still recieve credit for having sold the subscription.

They even provided stamped envelopes with which to send in the cancellation. So I agreed to purchase two magazines, on the condition that I would cancel them. Then one of the men asked me for a cigarette, which I thought was unprofessional, and a little wierd. Moments after they left, I searched Google and found that they are a fradulent company, and have victimized many people.

I have contacted local authorities, as well as my rental agency. Please be aware that they are quite aggressive, and contact your local police if they show up at your door.

Dani-if you have found this website, you no doubt have more insight than many thousands of unsuspecting victims of magazine itinerate sales. The salesgroups you've identified are NEVER affiliated with any school, and are in fact owned/controlled by a thug name Vinnie Pitts who resides in Fla and visits towns across the USA stealing money from folks who have been taken in by his salespeople. Vinnie will whine that he has no control over what the kids at the door tell folks... but will in turn beat that same agent for lack of production when they return with a less than productive day. Many of the young people in this line of work, like their boss, Vinnie, have extensive criminal/civil histories. But many of them are also good kids who are scared, with nowhere to go, and fall prey to a business that will keep a roof over their heads and 10-20 day in their pockets to ensure indentured servitude. Yes, they should have a permit, no we should never let them into our homes. But remember, many victims of this business are the kids that Vinnie and others like him abuse.

Some other details about the gentlemen: They both asked very inappropriate questions: "Are you down with 4:20?" I then asked the guy if a baseball player should smoke marijuana, and he replied "Oh just sometimes, besides, I'm the pitcher, so I don't run much." I was offended, as I do not engage in drug use. "Can I have a cigarette?" I'm not sure why I was asked this, although I do smoke, I assume that a person who is on the job isn't going to ask to borrow or use your personal items. "What are you doing tonight? We don't have anything going on, so we could hang with you if you want." Not sure about this one. It weirded me out a little.
