BBB facilitates these activities
Want to join the BBB? Better Business Bureau will send anyone the application that wants to join. Fill out the paper work. Say what you want. You can even say you were in business for 30 years even if you just started in business!
The last information we had, there is still no real check on the information you provide when joining the BBB. They just take their fees. In most cities the BBB charges over $300 a year plus additional fees for every employee you have after the first 3 or 4.
A business, just like the one above sets up, maybe not even in an actual location. They sign up with the BBB. The new business then uses the BBB as a reference. The BBB knows this. When called for business record or status, the BBB will provide a satisfactory rating even when they were aware of open complaints including significant issues pending. The BBB has been reading the Rip-off Reports and complaining about them for 2 years now. We have given them every opportunity to respond to every Rip-off Report and they still can like anyone else can, but to date they have never responded. About two years ago they did threaten to sue. Never heard from them again.
The person who filed the above Rip-off Report is not only a victim of this business opportunity scam, but also yet another victim of the BBB.
