Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I got my first checking account in 2000, and here in the middle of 2002, i got into a jam with some checks, and got a couple of warrents put out on a $4.00 check that I wrote a couple of days prior to the papers getting serve.

I was not in the country at the time so I did not know what was going on. When I have found out that they were going to put me in jail if i dont pay the funds ($954.00), that they will throw me into jail for a year! I know that i broke the law, but a year? if the d**n polotics in the state of kansas quit spinning our tax money, then other people (like myself) would have to pay a huge fine.

Then later on, the person that tryed to throw me in jail was nailed on a dui, and got off the hook because he was a polotition. can anyone explain to me why a person can get off on a dui (driving under the influince)but someone who wrote a bad check must be treated like somone who tryed to kill someone????

i personally think that anyone who is thinking about moving into the state of kansas, should think twice. someone who has a checking account there in the state of kansas, should be extrememly carfull so they wont treat you like a hard-core criminal.

I, personally have no sympathy for you. Do you balance your check book? Does your bank notify you when you write a bad check? Is the company just supposed to eat the cost of having to hunt you down to pay for a $4.00 check??? I work in check/bad debt collections, and I know for a fact that you get at least 60 days before the check is sued (sometimes MUCH longer). What is your excuse for failure to pay? Not in the country??? How can you not afford to pay $34.00 to right yourself, but can travel out of the country? We do have very strict check laws here, and that is because businesses are taking a huge hit with people stealing (yes I consider it stealing when services/products were recieved and never paid for) and this is their only way to protect themselves. Here is a hint for you, call the attorney's office and try to make arrangements,as this debt will not just disappear.

It's bad enough Kansas has a 'country-hick' type reputation. But you make us out to be really bad. At least you could've used a spell-checker. "Polotition?" Politician "Carfull?" Careful.... Having a checking account is not that bad. However, if you do get into this type of situation, you won't go to jail. When a bank or business tries to collect through legal action, you will get a notice to appear in court. Which when you get there, is just a bunch of lawyers sitting at tables and you sit down with the lawyer who's handling your case and figure out a repayment plan. It takes 20-30 minutes tops. This is how it works in Topeka. Although, it might be different in your city. Most often if you don't appear in 'court' the judgement would go directly to the business you owe. Never heard of anyone going to jail. It sounds like you got a a**hole for a lawyer. Maybe you should just get a savings account. It's a lot less hassle.
