I have been hounded by a collection agency whose employees refuse to give their names or the name of their company, while insisting that I have a delinquent account with Southwestern Bell telephone company in excess of $1,000.

The nameless, rude, and unbelievably pushy collectors claim that I opened a Southwestern Bell account in Detroit, Michigan approximately five years ago. I have never even BEEN to Michigan, let alone opened any sort of utility or telephone accounts there.

Upon investigating my credit reports from all three major reporting agencies, I found NO negative activity associated with any accounts in Michigan. However, there was an incorrect previous address on all three reports that showed me living in Tennessee and Michigan, at the same time.

I have taken steps to correct the previous address information, and I am relieved that this has not had a negative imact on my credit reports, but I have had no luck getting any information about the alleged account from Southwestern Bell. They won't give me any information without an account number, and I can't get the account number because I didn't open it. Meanwhile, I have those pesky collectors calling at least twice a day...

FCCS, Philadelphia, PA, Collection Agency Finally Answers a Few Questions

I have finally identified the collection agency attempting to collect on the fraudulently opened SBC telephone account, and actually had a civil conversation with a person in their office. The woman on the phone identified herself as Dana Ford, and she identified the company as FCCS, 841 East Huntington Park Ave., Philadelphia, PA, 19124. Ms. Ford stated that the agency has attempted to contact me by mail, but I have never received any correspondence from them. She agreed to send me a "fraud package" containing information on how to dispute the debt. They have my correct address, and hopefully, I will actually receive this mailing. I also requested that they stop calling my cell phone, but she would not give an unequivocal "yes" or "no" answer to my request. At least she refrained from impugning my character and calling me a liar, as many of her co-workers have done in previous attempts to deal with this mess.
