Sofa Showcase Going under fast - That's what they get for lying to consumers Union, Greenbrook, E.Brunswick, atontown, Freehold New Jersey
Most complaints are posted on another complaint-type website including ours (with all of the GORY details).
Long story short - we ordered a very ordinary sofa and loveseat on 1/4/02 and were told delivery could take between 8-12 weeks (while our written contract said that if we wanted to receive a refund, then we would have to wait until 7/4/02 -- 6 MONTHS later!) At the 9 week mark we were told the 8-12 week window was for Manufacturer Production time, not delivery waiting time!
April turned into May and call after call to their customer svc dept.continued to result in "we don't have a date yet for your delivery, but it should be sometime NEXT month"
The closer we came to our 7/4/02 date the more letter writing we did - to the complaint-type website, VISA, and NJ Division of Consumer Affairs (they have a website and complaint form online)..and whenever mailing through US Mail always via CERTIFIED MAIL with RETURN RECEIPT!
Happy to report that on 7/10/02 we received verbal confirmation from VISA that we received our refund (plus a whole 1% interest for our trouble after 6 months of sitting on pillows in our living room) but there are still many other "casualties" who were not so lucky and are still fighting for justice.
There used to be several locations in NJ (plus they had a website which I believe is now off-the-air) and to my knowledge these are the stores that are now closed: Union, Edison, Freehold, and East Brunswick. Not sure about their Greenbrook location, though. The only one left, I think, is their main store in Eatontown, NJ.
There's a good chance that NJ Div.of Consumer Affairs is going to pursue the chase, so be sure to write in and tell your tale of woe! Also, we're waiting to hear from a nationally syndicated consumer advocate, Tom Martino (he has a website) so please post there too!

Sofa Showcase is "history"! All NJ locations are CLOSED, but the Eatontown location (former SS HQ) is now known as Carolina Furniture Direct. BEWARE!! Detective Eric Singer (Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office) is on the case and is contacting "victims" as of 7/24/02. Please contact him if you were/are also a "victim".
