Judy,
In case you were wondering what happened with the jail job. I was hired per diem (PRN--when needed). They gave me enough hours only to train, and that was it. I answered an Oslow newspaper ad and applied 2005 in February, hired 2006 February, and as of June 2007 just before I moved, I was not given any hours, ever. I even went in unpaid on my own 4 more hours because I loved it, but it was clear I wasn't wanted there. I did wonder if I only got enough hours to train so they could legally they protected themselves (nursing jobs there are outsourced through Southern Health Partners), but no hours of actual work because of my Criminal Justice Degree.
The other comment sounds like that person wants to treat inmates like animals. NOT cool, and especially if that person who feels that way is in a position of power. Some are innocent, some do have mitigating factors. We all have rights in American, even when behind bars. It is Jehovah God who will judge us all in the end...

I was horrified when I read one of these responses regarding the inmates rights. Limited heat even? It sounds like a violation of the US Constitution, violation of "cruel and unusual punishment." I do not want to provide "heresay," but do want to add my own experience. A few years ago I had applied for a Nursing position at the Onslow County Jail. I kept in contact by phone as well as in person multiple times, and wondered why things were taking so long. When I was finally officially hired a year later, I was told, "The sheriff was hesitant to hire you, because you have a Criminal Justice Degree," and might try to teach the inmates the law." I didn't think that point was important until I read the other comments here. At the time, I was thinking, 'that's ridiculous because since they have nothing to do BUT READ the law, they probably know it better than me,' but now I know. They DON'T have access to law books like other inmates at other prisons --- which is unequal treatment, which is ALSO against the law.

OK , ED we know you are answering on behalf of yourself. The Bowie Maryland didn't fool anyone. Fact is I am from Maryland. And Bowie is not the place a white ( In my opinion) sheriff would be likely to have friends. And surley not one who lies as well as you do. We can keep this going. right is on my side. you are the liar.

I am a legal resident of Onbslow County. Ed has been investigated by the SBI at Dewey hudson's insistance, and found innocent of all allegations. Dewey almost got beat in the following election because of this issue. Here's your sign...A man named Robert E. Lee could not beat Ed in the several attempts at unseating him. If a man named Robert E. Lee cannot win an election in a Southern County, guess why. Ed Brown is the consumate professional. Prisoners should be given nothing at all to read. No television either. No radio. Nothing. Feed them the minimum daily requirement for sustinence, and just enough heat to keep from freezing. No air conditioning at all, and cold water showers. If they enjoy being in jail after that, they can have it. The rest will learn to behave.
