Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

In March of 2013, I filed a complaint with the CPFB regarding my 2nd mortgage account with Citibank. My statement pointed out that not even a dollar of my monthly payments of $363.00 were going toward the principal amount.

From that date, getting any information from Citibank, or CitiMortgage – holding the primary mortgage – became impossible.

Fast forward to the present. My principal mortgage climbed from a balance of approximately $48,000 due to $61,000 and climbing. The added $13,000 is a combination of back-escrow and more than $6000 labeled simply “interest.”

Along the way, CitiMortgage attempted to auction off my house without notification in July 2015. At the last minute, the Virginia Attorney General’s office helped me stop the auction by a “back-door” means because it was plainly illegal.

I was suddenly enrolled in a HARP application, and told that I would have a reinstated mortgage after the 3rd trial payment, due November 1, 2015. On November 3, 2015 – once my payment cleared – Citibank/CitiMortgage sold my loan to Selene Finance, presumably for “collection”. In March of this year, I signed a “modified” mortgage, at the same interest, with Selene Finance. Despite requesting an accounting of my loan history from Selene since last November, as well as a series of complaints to the CFPB, I still have yet to receive even a monthly statement of my account. I have now learned that a bankruptcy I filed in 2007 – which excluded the mortgage anyway – was used as the excuse for not communicating with me. I remain in foreclosure status so Selene can gather more “interest”, as well as preventing me from making any progress on my still-growing balance. I am on Social Security Disability, so private legal help is out of the question. I do not meet the poverty requirements for legal aid. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has proven to be only a dead-end conduit to someone at the suspect mortgage company for a prepared response.

My question is:

Is there any avenue by which I can have this abuse by two mortgage companies investigated by a law enforcement agency? It seems impossible that this would only happen to me alone. So is this business as usual? Since there is no individual at the mortgage company held accountable for a long string of alleged “mistakes”, will I simply be robbed again anyway?
