Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
Let me start by saying I have been a Sears Customer for well over 20 years, and have done quite a bit of business with them in that lenght of time.

My problem seemed to be a relatively easy one to solve, or so I thought. In that 20+ years I have ALWAYS paid MORE than DOUBLE my minimum payment.

But I have been on Social Security Disability for some time now, and receive my check on the 3rd of each month. So what does Sears do? They bill me on the 1st of each month, this is an email I sent them on 4/3/03:

Is there anyway you can change my due date from the 1st to the 6th or the 7th of the month?

I don't recieve my check until the 3rd of the month and, as a result, I get charged a $35.00 late payment fee. Please email me with any information you may have,

Thank you, Jerry

AND this was the reply I received from Sears Customer Care:

Dear Jerry,

Thank you for contacting Sears.

Unfortunately, changing a payment due date for a Sears account is not an option at this time due to systems limitations.

As a courtesy, we have issued credit for the late fee and the credit will appear on your next statement.

If you have any comments or questions, please email us or call us at 1-800-917-7700. Thank you for visiting SearsCard.com and please remember to shop www.sears.com for great savings everyday.

YES they did credit me for the late charge but now I have another one, my payment was due on 7-1-03 and was charged another $35.00 Late Charge on 7-2-03.

I always pay ONLINE and could easily make the payment on the 3rd, yet they assess a Late Charge on the 2nd.

I make my payment EVERY MONTH. Because I make a payment, more than double the amount required, couldn't this be viewed as "paying ahead" instead of paying late? Is there any reason they could not move my due date ahead 2 days. I'm beginning to change my mind about Sears, Roebuck and Co. and just how accommodating they really are.

Jerry

This month your payment was due on July 1st, but because your check didn't arrive until after that date you incurred a late fee. Sears was not helpful by changing the due date....no surprise, but they did waive the late fee. Take that late fee that you didn't have to pay and make your payment towards the end of the month for your August 1st payment, and do not double the payment. Make only the minimum payment. Then, when your check arrives after the first of August, you will actually be ahead, because that money can be used for your September payment. Once again you can start doubling your payments. Not a perfect solution, since Sears was not helpful, but you will avoid those horrendous late fees.
