people are getting so caught up in the bad that is going on in the world that they fail to realize that our slpd does alot of good. i myself personally have had to call the cops for assistance in the past. much like many others in this town. example a few years ago there was an issue with one of my chidren, to make a long story short the child was almost stolen from me. but getting a heads up on the situation i informed the slpd of what was going on. keep in mind that i was not sure on what day it was going down. the slpd did not hesitate for a second from the minute they were told. they watched my house for almost a week and in the end caught the jerk. and just think of all of the drugs and alcohol that they take out of our kids hands and the lives they are saving by doing that. they sit by the schools to ensure that people are not speeding through the school zone. the are protecting our children. just imagine the world without them. any everyday criminal could get away with everything their heart desired. so before you decide that it is good to bash them maybe you should sit back and think of all the good they are doing for the community, the lives they are saving, the criminals they are catching, the drugs they keep of the streets, and the drunks they stop before they kill somebody. thank you slpd for all you have done and everything you will continue to do i support you!!! special thanks to jimmy law for your over seas services

you must be affiliated with the police somehow to say somthing like that ,who cares if they do help the community the citizens help also we dont need the cops to tell the kids about drugs, we can do that ,for those who actually care about keeping their kids off drugs, for those who dont thats their problem ,the cops get paid to catch people like that ,as for their pay i think they get paid enough to sit on there asses ,theres not alot of crime around saranac lake ,and whoes making them stay ? it must be the corruption or the money keeping them their, because anyone in their right mind wouldnt work for a little next to nothing , as for the fat cops , their shouldnt be any ,cops should be recruted from the army at least they would know how to deal with that job and hey wouldnt be overweight,if there should be fat cops they should be working at a desk, not trying to catch ciminals. for the people working at the police station nobody forced them to work their, i work and i dont think i get paid enogh but im not gonna do illegal s**t just because im not making enough,i can look for a better paying job or deal with it ,thats my decision, so its the cops problem that they arent making enough, they could try to find a place were they do pay enough. also we dont care who works as a cop just as long as they do there job!!!!!!

I have read these entries in the rip off report, and while they are amusing, they are quite ridiculous. Every police dept. in the nation has some overweight officers, and some corruption. It is a fact of life, so deal with it. Besides, those who are more fit probably aspire to be troopers or border patrol...it's no secret that the village of Saranac Lake pays its police the least of almost any other municipality in the state!!! Why would you want to stay there when you don't make s**t for money?!! You have to give some credit to the guys that still work there...that is real dedication. A lot of the officers are good people, and we have lost some that would have been true role models for police agencies everywhere. I have heard good things about Jim Law, Jon Gay, and some of the officers who left (Brown, Bettsinger). Law does a great job in the community with DARE and the schoolkids love him. SLPD does have a shortage of officers that want to help the community however. SLPD recently lost a female officer (Bettsinger) who was excellent and would have done great things for the community, although I hear she couldn't afford to live off of the pathetic pay from the village. She had a college education and actually liked people. SLPD needs females for this reason. But oh well---my point is that until the village takes some responsibility for their pd and gives them a big raise, try to be supportive of them because they are doing the best that they can, the village leaders are responsible for the lack of professionalism and lack of good officers in our town, not the dept or the Chief. thank you
