On June 23 2014, a technician from Safelite Auto Glass in Brandon FL came to my home (while I was at work) to replace the windshield on my 1988 Ford F150.  I borrowed another truck to get to work that day.  The windshield they were replacing was not broken  -- it had five rock marks in it.  The technician removed the molding, then smashed the windshield out -- leaving glass in the cab and on my driveway.  He then knocked on the door and told my daughter "Tell your dad to have this truck towed and get the rust fixed first." He covered the windshield opening with plastic and drove off.  I took pictures showing that he never even brushed the dirt away from the bottom area of the windshield opening to see that the only area that had rust was the stamped metal $1.98 each replaceable mounting clips.  The pins that they mounted to were and are fine.  Seven of the nine stamped metal mounting clips needed replacing.  The clips on the uprights and on the top were fine and had the original paint on them.

I sent pictures showing that the technician had not taken the time to inspect the area (he did not brush away the dirt), that the stamped metal replaceable clips were the only thing that were rusted, and that the mounting surface for the windshield and gasket were fine and that the clips needed replacing as per normal repair procedure.

They left my work truck in an un-driveable condition with broken glass in the cab and on my driveway and steadfastly refused to fix the damage they caused.

After seeing the photographic proof, Safelite STILL refused to install a new windshield to replace the one they smashed out.  The store manager told the insurance company "The sealing surface of the pinch weld is rusted.  With this type of damage they cannot safely install the windshield."  He said this without ever seeing the vehicle, without ever having his technician do so much as brush away the dirt to inspect this surface, and in spite of the photographic evidence to the contrary.  I don't even see a pinch weld -- it's stamped metal.

What Safelite in Brandon FL did was break out my windshield (just like a vandal would do), leave a mess of broken glass in the cab of my truck and in my driveway, and refuse to repair the mess they themselves made.  At no time was there ever any notice given to me that said "Oh, we might trash your truck and leave it impossible to drive, and you assume all risk for that."
