On November 5th, 2013 my daughters car was hit while parked in a parking lot at her job by a girl who had Safe Auto Insurance. The accident was captured on video, and there were 6 executives having a meeting in a room overlooking the parking lot that witnessed the accident also. The police came and filled out a report. My daughter contacted Safe Auto on November 7th to find out where they wanted the car towed to for an estimate. They denied any knowledge of the accident, and said they would get back to her. They called the next week and told her where to take the car.

The estimate was for a little over $3k. Her car was a loaded 2002 Volkswagon Jetta (leather heated seats, sliding moon roof, sound system, alloy wheels, etc). Safe auto said it was totaled. The car sat in the mechanics shop for three weeks torn apart. My daughter tried calling safe auto to find out what was going on. The first time they said it was not their clients fault and they wouldn't pay. When my daughter emailed them a copy of the video, and pictures that were taken, along with the police report (whcih they said they did not get a copy of) they then agreed that their client was at fault, but she would have to deal with another adjuster, because this one did not do totals. Another week went by with no word from safe auto. Since my name was on the title as the owner, I was curious as to why they were not talking to me about the claim. My daughter told them to talk to me the second week of December.

I was contacted (by message on the house phone) by a third individual (Jill M.) and given her name, number and extension (1-800-723-3288 X-66067). I called back immediately on getting the message, but she did not answer. I left a message for her giving her my cell phone number and explaining I worked every day and would have my cell phone on me. She called my house again three days later. I then wrote her an e-mail and gave her my cell phone number. She has called once on my cell phone, but I was in the bathroom and did not hear the phone. As soon as I saw I had missed her call again, I immediately called her back, and have been calling three or four times a week. She does not answer her phone, and now I get a message that the extension is an invalid extension. I have called customer service, and been disconnected three times now. They keep saying that my adjuster is Jill M. at X-66067.

My daughter is graduating from Chem. Eng. school this spring, and currently has a part time job at the place she will start work after graduating. She has had to buy a clunker to get her back and forth to school while this company plays games with our settlement. I have never had a company so willfully go out of their way to not deal with you. This woman (Jill) told me the last message she left that due to a snow storm they had, they were just swamped with work and she couldn't get to me. So they put new claims ahead of old?

Safe Auto is not a company that will deal honestly with you, or professionally. I left messages with times to call me, have requested that she tell me what time to call her (I said I would use a clients phone from their office), and have tried dillegently to come to an agreeable end to this farce, but Safe Auto has not responded with the same.

Technically, the insurance company doesn't owe you anything. The person who damaged your car does.    You don't have to put up with the insurance company run around.    Simply file suit against the other driver in small claims court.   The limit in Ohio is (conveniently) $3,000 and filing fees are relatively cheap, and recoverable.

Your video evidence would make this a slam dunk, but I doubt it would ever get that far.  The insurance company is obligated by contract to defend their client.   Once they know you're not going to put up with their tactics anymore, they should settle fairly quickly.

Colorado,
If, as you say, they are delaying you and giving you the run around...
