I purchased a Royal Dandie Extreme from Patty Sorenson for $6000.  Ms Sorenson advertised, and stated in several phone conversations that the Royal Dandie Extreme was much smaller than the original Royal Dandie, with the projected weight of 15-29 lbs if fed and exercised correctly.

My piglet arrived with Pattys special food blend ~ Patty warned against feeding anything else, as the piglets did "not have the taste" for anything else.  Patty advised against letting my piglet graze on any grass, as that might lead to weight gain.

I fed my piglet and exercised my piglet EXACTLY as Patty advised.  When she was 1 yr old, and already 29lbs, I contacted Patty to let her know that my piglet had already exceeded the growth projection for her breed ~  Patty responded that "all pigs mature at different rates, and that this is what has most likely happened to mine.  As these pigs grow and are not mature until 3 yrs of age ...

Being fed the diet that Patty advised, At 1yr, and 29lbs, my piglet had ripples over her rib cage ~

Patty claimed that I had been overfeeding ~ I had been feeding her the EXACT amount of her "special" food, with 1/2 to 1 cup of raw squash between meals for snacking.  Patty advised that I pick a less caloric snack ...   What could be less caloric than RAW SQUASH???

I also own two 8yr old potbellied pigs ~ One purchased for $75, and the other for $50.

As my little piglet grows, it is obvious that she is not the "mini" pig that Patty Sorenson leads her customers to believe.

Since then I have met several (5) other Royal Dandie owners who's Royal Dandies were 3 yrs +, and weight between 100-125 lbs.  Seeing pictures of these pigs, they were definitely not fat .  I had been STRICTLY monitoring my pigs food as advised by Patty,  I feel terrible when I look back at the photo of my piglet at  1 yr when her ribcage was clearly outlined on her body.  My Veterinarian advised me to switch IMMEDIATELY to Mazuri Elder Pig Chow, as it appeared that the food from the Royal Dandie outfit lacked the appropriate nutrients, and that the amounts that Patty advised were basically starving the animal hoping to curb its growth.   At 14 mos old,  I have an adorable solid and well nourished piglet weighing in at 35lbs ...

It is very obvious to me and to my veterinarian, that Patty has created a hype , and is selling regular potbellied pigs to unsuspecting consumers who are charmed by the cute babies on Pattys website.  Pigs can reproduce at 3 months old, which is why the "parents" that Patty shows weigh only 15lbs or so.

Again, these pigs do not stop growing until they are 3 yrs old.   Every accredited Potbellied Pig Association or Entity will back up these claims ...

Patty is not a member of the Miniature Potbelly and Pig Registry

In Summary, THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A MATURE MINI PIG THAT WEIGHS 30 LBS OR LESS !!
THIS IS A SCAM !

That is, 35 lbs and counting!!

Future Pig Owners, I recently purchased a Royal Dandie pig without knowing anything about pigs. All my questions were answered before the purchase and the customer service after the purchase has been outstanding! We live in New Mexico and our piglet was shipped to us with no issues!

Patty is always willing to help with anything and is very timely in responding back to emails and phone calls. She will always answer any and all questions truthfully and she has so much knowledge about pigs. We have been so happy with our purchase of our little piglet! He is very calm and is soooo smart.

He was sent to us litter box trained for one thing and it has been a very enjoyable experience training him to see how smart he actually is. Within a couple weeks with putting training time in he was walking on a leash, sitting, staying, coming to his name, and shaking hands (hooves).

Months after our piglet purchase I still continue contact with Patty for questions, updates, and to send pictures. We continue to buy the great products from her website to keep our piglet healthy as well. Overall the purchase of our piglet was a great experience and we are more than satisfied!

Royal Dandie’s get a 10+ in my book and if you are looking to purchase a family pet piggy don’t look any further! John Laws Farmington, New Mexico

Animal Abuse

#3REBUTTAL Owner of company

In response to the accustions of animal abuse........

I have been breeding my Royal Dandies for nealy 30 years now and educating my clients and other miniature pet pigs owners for much of that time.
My goal was to produce a small pet pig that is healthy, intelligent, social with adapts well to indoor as well as outdoor invironment.
30 years of intensive study and learning by my own and others mistakes has brought me to where I am today.....still learning!
I listen to my clients and offer my experience and knowlege  to them whenever I am asked.
The main thing that I have learned is that there are no set rules for any animals as they are all very much individules and require individule care and provisions.  This needs to be recognized by owners of pets and of course by those who breed these pets.... myself included.
That being said........I am responding to some of the articles issues about  myself and my Royal Dandie and Dandie Extreme pet pigs.
What and how we feed these little pigs makes a huge difference on how they grow, their attitudes and long term health issues.  It is extrmely important to stick to a feeding program that is proper for you each individule piglet and adult pig.  Feed amounts needs to be adjusted as the piglet requires as it is still growing.
I treat each piglet as an individual and give each client my opinion of what that piglet should be eating asking that they send me an updated picture as the piglet matures so I can help with any changes that they may need to make.  Feeding guidelines are just that.......guidelines.  If your pig is too thin or too fat changes obviously need to be made.
My pigs eat only what is given to them.....their feed and Vit/min suppliment.  They are not allowed to graze on grass nor do I give them snacks of any kind.  They are well rounded and well porportioned small pigs.  We do not starve or stunt are pigs....we simply give them  what they require to be healthy agile and happy.
Once other foods such as fruits and veggies and other snacks are introduced to them it can and will cause an imbalance of their personal eco system.  In most cases the feed and vit/min supplement is balanced properly  to insure a proper and suffienient diet as well as proper weight and body condition.  As soon as outside carbs, proteins, sugars and GMOs are introduced it can  make a tremendous  difference in their well being, weight gain and unwanted and unnecessary skeletal growth.
In this particular situation the piglet was started off on a healthy and controlled diet.  These clients choose to add squash to their piglets diet.  Unfortuneatly.......most squash is grown with GMOs.  Fed everyday (which it was in this case)  can effect the pig in more than one area but for sure in the growth pattern. These are facts and I will include the websites and reffernces at the end of this article.
Squash is also loaded wth carbohydrates.....approximately 30 grams per cup and is high in sugar.
If you have ever read the " Carbohydrates Addicts Diet "  you will undersand just what an over balance of carbs can do to your body.  Sugar stores fat.  Squash also has 2.0 % protein.
Just quash can cause many, many imblances and issues with your pigs size, weight, growth, attitude and many other health issues.
Actually....these pigs can grow until they are 3 to 5 years of age.  Again they are all very much individules.
I have parents, grand parents and great great grand parents for my clients to see pictures of.  I never breed a pig until it s at least 2 years of age.  As my pigs get smalle the females don't usually come into heat until they are nearly 1  1/2 years of age.  At two years of age they are mature enough to give birth to 1 to 5 piglets.    A three month old female woud not only be bred but surely wouldn't be large enough to deliver her piglets saftely.  I snd pictures of the sow with her litter and something in the pictures for a size refference.  I have pictures of every litter ever born here along with pictures of the parents.  I can send a long pictures of a sow wih each litter with dates the pictures were takn to prove the age of the sow.
I am not  menber of the National Pot bellied Pig Association.  I have no reason to be as
My goal was to breed small pig to small pig no matter if the pigs I  used were registered or not.  I have never sold  unneutered or unspayed piglets...period!  Overpopulation has always been a main concern of mine and educating my clients is of upmost importance to me.
Thank you for reading!
P.S.  I have an educational book coming out soon.....I hope  it will be an interesting and intertaining  read for all of you!

Royal Dandie Mini Pigs

#4General Comment

Fri, July 26, 2013

I too have had experience with the Royal Dandie pigs. I have a small scale potbellied pig rescue and some of them came to me (I have the papers to prove it) and I know others that also have these pigs.  If these pigs are fed according to breeder's instructions, they are being malnourished.  They are being fed minimal amounts of food only to sustain them, but their organs and skeletal structure will not develop normally and that will result in long term effects of stunted growth and even a shorter life span.

We receive many many calls from people that have purchased these Royal Dandie pigs as well as all the other various labels the various breeders use to make an easy buck (nano pig, micro mini, pygmy, teacup, pixie, petite) and to trick and mislead the general public.  What happens is that these breeders have pictures of "the parents" of these pigs on their websites, but in most cases, the parents are still babies themselves. Pigs breed at a very young age and are extremely prolific.  The fact is that pigs do not reach full maturity until they are 4-5 years of age. Every healthy Royal Dandie I know of and have personally been in contact with, at full maturity, is at or in excess of 100 pounds.

The first RD pig that I received was one of the gifts in the swag bags at the Golden Globe awards several years ago. He has since been re-homed and is right at  about 100 pounds.
