Beware of "Rob's 24/7 Mobile Mechanic" or "Robs Custom Mobile Applications." He is a total scam artist who recently worked on our vehicle.

We contacted Rob to see if he could come and replace a "catalytic convertor" on our vehicle before moving back to California.

We gave him the exact part number that was needed and he informed us that since he has "over 20 years experience" that he could get the part from a distributor for around $200. (This was much cheaper than any of the other shops in town, and we decided to take our chances with an after market product.)

We gave him explicit instructions NOT to weld the original part back together, as someone had attempted to do that previously and it resulted in the part being severely damaged.

Rob showed up with the part and indicated he would need about 3 hours to work on the car. Again, we instructed him NOT to weld anything to which he complied.

3 hours later he was done and he suggested we start the vehicle to make sure it sounded better and that gas was no longer leaking into the car vents. The car was driven around the block to verify that the car was drivable and that everything was now in working order.

Rob also suggested that the exhaust be fixed at a later date.

Sadly, his work on the vehicle didn't even last 24 hours!!!!

The following morning, the vehicle was incredibly loud (as it was before it was fixed) and the smell of gas was once again evident inside the car. This raised a red flag as this shouldn't have happened if a replacement catalytic converter had been installed.

We took the vehicle to Canadian Tire to get an oil change, and upon mounting the vehicle all of the mechanics descended underneath the car and began shaking their heads. We immediately went out to see what the fuss was about and was promptly asked who did the "terrible welding job" underneath our car.

We looked up in pure horror to see a completely mangled mess of a weld job. The one mechanic at Canadian Tire put his wrench up to the area where Rob had been working on, tapped it  ... and the whole piece fell apart.

This was incredibly frustrating as Rob was instructed NOT to re-weld the damaged part and he agreed to those terms.

Rob was called immediately and questioned about his work, and at which time he became incredibly defensive - interrupting and shouting - and eventually hung up. He offered that we drive our vehicle out to HIS SHOP to fix the issue, which made zero sense as we paid him to come to us. (ie: he's a mobile mechanic.)

After a second call, Rob suggested we bring the catalytic convertor back and that he'd try to get some of our money back from the distributor. This was impossible as no convertor was EVER installed. Canadian Tire confirmed that the factory convertor was still intact and attached to the vehicle.

ROB DID NOT INSTALL THE PART WE HIRED HIM TO DO AND SPENT 3 HOURS WELDING SPOTS ON THE ORIGINAL DAMAGED PART - to the tune of $600.

The mechanics continued to look at his work and verified that the work Rob performed would've taken any regular mechanic half and hour and cost $50 at most.

The pics speak for themselves.

Thankfully, Canadian Tire replaced the entire piece and we made it back to California.

This guy is a TOTAL FRAUD and clearly had no idea what he was doing. And when contacted about possibly refunding some of the money he was terribly rude and unprofessional. We even said we'd let him keep his $120 for his service call and that he could refund the rest since he didnt even install any new parts. All he did was shout into the phone, interrupt and refused to refund any money.

He also states that he has video surveillance equipment on board his vehicle and that he video tapes his clients and conversations. The last time we checked it was illegal to tape someone if they are unaware that's happening.

Consider this a lesson learned.
