Complaint Review: Robert Elliott Alpert - Scottsdale Arizona

This post is an attempt to prevent any future mistreatment of others by Robert Alpert (Bob/Bobby/Bobert).  Bob preys on inexperienced business owners or distressed companies and presents himself as a business and financial expert.  To what extent this may be true, the fact is that Bob has been involved in over 100 lawsuits (known lawsuits listed below) since the mid 1980s including no less than 3 active lawsuits, which makes him a very dangerous business partner.  Most recently he is being sued for civil theft and fraud by a bankruptcy trust involving the Video Professor assets which he allegedly acquired by misrepresenting himself (Case:10-34729-MER in the US bankruptcy court for the district of Colorado).  He is also being sued by Chartis Property Casualty Company allegedly for insurance fraud.  Please tread carefully when dealing with Robert Alpert.  A review of his past business dealings and current litigation will probably lead you to the conclusion that he is a legal bully and uses the court system to try to impose his will and basically steal company assets.  Regarding his lawsuits since 2005, the "story" is usually the same and the cast of supporting characters is surprisingly similar. The names Leslie McCarver (attorney and  high-end real estate agent) and Bill Reed (past and current business partner) have come up a few times in Robert Alpert dealings.  They speak to his wealth and to his credibility to build confidence which is the start of a seemingly prolific and friendly relationship between Mr. Alpert and his potential victims. They paint a picture of an honest powerful man who is driven to help others as a way of giving back.  Please be careful as this is most likely far from the truth.  The majority of his past business partners will most likely say that he is a cheap man that does not play fairly and thinks he is above the law.  Mr. Alpert is known to tell stories of his private wealth and accomplishments. He takes lavish trips to Vegas and talks about his relationships with the likes of Andre Agassi and Tony Hawk and attends their annual charity events to further enhance his credibility (much like the characters you might find on American Greed on MSNBC).  It is believed that Robert Alpert is a trust fund child from Michigan, then Houston Texas, now Scottsdale, Arizona (allegedly, his father made money in steel and later killed himself) but his true worth is unknown.  He represents himself as an individual worth over 100 million dollars but the real amount is believed to be a fraction of that amount (not liquid) so he uses other peoples money to fund his lifestyle. His highly embellished net worth is believed to include equity interests in private companies such as American Traffic Solutions, Copia Mobile, Video Professor and other entities which he can manipulate on paper.  He uses a private foundation to shelter assets and has come under criminal IRS investigation a number of times and is currently in court with the Arizona IRS (last known court date was mid-June 2012).  Please be careful when dealing with Mr. Alpert as he gains your confidence but has an insidious mode of operation and a apparently a history of stiffing his vendors and attorneys. This should provide enough information in advance to make the connection if you come in contact with him. It is highly recommended to steer clear or be very careful before you have any business dealings with Robert Elliott Alpert personally or any company in which he is connected.
