On July 13, 2005 I obtained my credit report & saw two entries in the amount of $179. The first from Fingerhut back in 2001, the second from RJM ACQ LLC Fingerhut Axsys National Bank.

I have tried numerous times calling and faxing to the companies to find information on where to send my payment so that I can clean up my credit. Every person I speak to, gives me another number to call.

Then I was told the only place that will accept payment is RJM ACQ LLC. This is where I hit a wall. You cannot call them, you can only fax them. I did so leaving my work, home & cell number & even my work fax number so that they can let me know where to send my money. I have heard nothing!

They are ripping me off by making the double entries on my credit report. At this point, I am willing to pay off both of them just so my credit is cleared. Please help!!

I had checked my credit report and found them on there for $388.00 what they do is they collect on old bad debts. I contacted them today and found out that a company that I tried to pay off 2 years ago sold it to them. It was Wachovia. and as far as them reporting it to the credit comany as late for 2007 it takes a while for the status to change so it may have got in the crosswires from when you paid it and when you checked you credit report. Give it another month or so and if it isn't changed by then I would give them a call again and ask what the problem is. The person I talked to today was very plesent and willing to help out.

I submitted a dispute on line through all 3 of the credit bureaus. Experian came back with an update today and it doesn't say much. However when I look at my report again, It says under RJM ACQ LLC that I am late as of July 2005. They moved the date to recent!! How can they do this? This is absured. First it was on there for 2001. Then it was put on for a 2nd time for 2004. Now they updated the 2004 entry to say I am late now???????? I resubmitted another dispute saying I never had an account and they have now supplied me with any proof that I did. Why won't this go away? And you say that if I pay it that won't even work either. I want this off. How can I go about this?

I UNDERSTAND YOU WANT TO DO THE RIGHT THING..

But reaffirming and paying something you don't owe (and twice) is not the right thing. As I stated, it hurts your credit a whole lot more...you may pay it, but trust me, once they have your money, you will NOT get a letter saying the "debt" is satisfied and they will NOT take it off your credit. In your letter, tell them that you would like to see some documentation showing how they calculated what you owe and something showing that you agreed to pay this amount to the original creditor. Tell them that IF there is an issue, it will be resolved with the original creditor, as you do not deal with collection agencies or junk debt buyers. Additionally, tell them that if they can not provide this validation within 30 days, they MUST remove these negative entries from your credit report. Also dispute with the credit bureaus. I'm not saying that they won't "sell" your "debt" to another JDB and you may have to repeat the process. JDBs are the prime reason that I feel the credit reporting system needs to undergo a major overhaul..these vultures can economically damage people over debts they don't owe. But I guess that extortion is big business now.

Did not know that. easier to just pay

I thought it would be easier to just pay it and get them off but if you state that it would be more difficult than I will definitely dispute it. I do not want to pay for what I don't owe but I just thought that would be easiest. I certainly am not going to pay for anything and then have the problem of it still being on my credit report anyway. Thank you for the information. It is such a shame a company does this to people. I have read many other complaints on this website from people with the same problem. Never had the account, double charges, paid and it showed up again. Terrible. What can be done to make this company stop this or shut them down??

NOW YOU HAVE ESTABLISHED YOURSELF AS AN EASY MARK... better to dispute than to reaffirm something you likely didn't owe

You can expect lots of phantom debts to appear on your credit from junk debt buyers. What you may have done by paying something that may not even be valid is "reaffirm" a debt and I can almost guarantee you that it will NOT come off your credit report..if anything, you may do major damage to your credit. Since these two entities are essentially one and the same, you will be paying the same junk debt twice and hurting your credit twice as much. What you should have done is send a letter asking for proof that the debt is yours (and a printout from their database is NOT validation..something with your signature is) and if they can't provide it, they must remove it from your credit. Even if they didn't obey the law, you would have done better to dispute with the credit reporting agencies than to pay..better to dispute than to reaffirm something you likely didn't owe.

Today I managed to find a phone number for RJM ACQ LLC. For anyone else having this problem call 516-714-1370. They were very helpful and said that I can mail my check. When they recieve payment they will send me a letter stating the account is closed. Then it takes 45 days for it to come off my credit report. So I will do just that. I hope it all works out. It seems it will.
