In May of this years I had 3 perscriptions filled from my physician at my local Rite Aid. These were new prescriptions that I had never had before. Later the same day I picked up these perscriptions filled.

In June I was contacted by the pharmacy manager who stated that I was not charged properly for the perscriptions and owed them another $70. She claims that when the perscriptions were picked up some sort of error occurred with their system and the full amount due wasn't charged.

She has now threatened to no longer permit me to pickup perscriptions unless I pay this $70 she claims I owe.

I can't see how this can be legal...can anyone offer any advice? This is a small town and Rite aid is the only pharmacy we have, I would have to travel to another town to get my perscriptions filled.

Was it a few days after you received a call or weeks after? If it was a few days they probably caught the error on the insurance company. If it is later, it is a pharmacy error. You should contact the pharmacy District Manager. Call the store and ask for his number. It is on file and they are required to give it. Explain your situation to the District Manager and see if they can resolve it. I know someone who is in management for Rite Aid and that is how I got your answer.

Give the Rite Aid district pharmacy manager a call and get an explanation as to what the 'error' was. Ask for a written explanation as well before you pay the $70. The fact it took so long to detect the error raises troubling questions. Could it have been an issue with your insurance carrier? Did they even give you the right medications?

Pay them!

If you owe the money, why not pay?  Mistakes are often made and not discovered until the register is cleared.
