So I took the plunge and bought a spa. I looked at a ton of dealers of new spas, but was sold on the idea of buying a used spa at a "fraction the price". That was my first mistake. After looking at all the dealers in the area I thought this made sense and it seemed to be a good deal on a large name brand spa.

Jim told me he would never spend the money on a new spa because he sells the same brands used for only a couple of years for much less than what I would pay new. That made sense. How many people buy them and then after a few year loose the interest in them? I have back problems so I thought I could take advantage of this. Keep in mind my search for spas had only been with Spa Dealers, not Costco, Sams Club or Home Depot--my stupid mistake!

We went to Redspafit a couple of times and the original spa we wanted was sold according to Jim. We talked to him about a "great spa" that was originally over $5000 new. It was the size we wanted and the price was only $1900! We thought that was a deal--I mean he sells them only a couple of years old and we could save over $3K on the spa. The problem was after we bought it we found out it was a 1996 model--our first BIG mistake. Why the hell didn't I ask the year? It looked so new--don't let that fool you like it did me.

The major problem we had was after only 3 months using this "like new spa" was when the heating element went out. I was not happy that we had to shell out the money to fix the problem. Apparently when Jim tells you that if you have any problems with the spa he will "work it out with you" that mean he will charge you over $400 to fix it. My second stupid mistake was not to get a warranty or something in writing. He told me the unit looked like it had taken a hit by ligthing. I am really dumb about electrical stuff, so I believed him. I was quoted $90 for the part and $180 for the install.

Jim came a week after the scheduled appointment (don't get me started on his reference for time and appointments). After he "looked" at it and actually disassembled the heating element ( which I appreciated, but didn't feel compelled to pay for) he told me it was a $75 service fee. I told him I would pay for the entire work on credit card. He didn't want to do that because it would cost more to use the credit card processing, but I didn't have a check so he said I could bring it in.

It took over a month to get the parts--my back was killing me.

So the spa I finally bought was useless for a month while I was in pain. Then the parts came in and as is usually the install date changed several times over a few weeks. Once it was finally put in it worked great for two weeks. After 2 weeks it started to turn off at 94 degrees. I could'nt do anything about it for a few weeks, but...

Today I went to talk to him and let him know it wasn't working. The first thing he tried to tell me was it was something else causing it--great more probs on this "like new spa". The next thing he tells me is that I have a balance of $85 for his service call. What!?!? My credit card was charged $180 and $190. That was more than the service call he quote and parts and install, but I didn't care at the time because the hot tub worked. Now he says I owe him $85--where did that come from? He said he would check into it.

I shared the problem again and he said he would send the tech guy out to look at it--for a serice charge. BULLSH**. I am not paying another dime for work that should have been done right initially--no that should not have had to have been done at all and if it was I should have been given the work free. I would have paid for the parts, but there is no reason I should have paid for the work or the service call.

Stay away from this dealer of hot tubs and spas--Home Depot is cheaper and it comes with a warranty!
