RCA TRCA Thompson 50 HDTV RIPOFF Grand Praire Texas
I purchased an RCA 50inch DLP HDTV from Walmart (Mod #HD50LPW62A/SER #F195C602F)less than 3 years ago. Two months ago the bulb went out, and I ordered a new one and replaced it myself as RCA Customer Service directed me to. Shortly after replacing the bulb my set began squeeling and shutting off on its own, after doing research I found out it was the color wheel and that this line of television sets all have the problem of the color wheel going out shortly after the bulb is replaced.
I called RCA and was given 3 'authorized service centers' each one wanted over 100 dollars just to come to my house, that price did not include diagnosing the problem and I was also told that I would have to be the one to actually change the part (by 2 service centers, one wanted me to bring it in), I am 7 months pregnant and can't pull or pick up on a 50IN tv.
I told one of them to order the part and call me to set an appt. I then recieved a call telling me that RCA no longer manufactures Part #26700 so I called RCA Customer Service and told them what was going on, they gave me a Case #2S049 and told me to call Thomson, when I did I was giving the run-around told I needed to call an authorized service center (even though I already did), I then asked them why did I need to call a service center when the television could not be repaired anyway, because the part was out of stock and not being manufactured any longer....they hung up on me....I called back and the answer I was given was that I need to get the service man to write a work order on the tv that cannot be repaired because the part is no longer available and will not be.
I searched on line about these tv's and I found most everyone who bought this tv has the same problem. I want to know why a company would manufacture something then refuse to service it or make sure the parts are available to the consumer??
