Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I was needing a laptop computer with a wireless connection because our phone connection is unreliable in the rural area where I live.

So I went to several electronics stores around Austin,Texas to see what I could get. I will not name names but they had obsolete junk to trap unwary buyers who were not tech-wise for a thousand bucks and then some and other deals that were obviously damaged and defective.

I had $1,000 budgeted for a laptop in CASH and Fry's Electronics refused to wait on me before I could even tell them I had the money.

I went to Radio Shack because I have been able to buy great electronics from them in the past.

I made the mistake of going to the store in Highland Mall where I bought the computer of my dreams -- A COMPAQ ( Hewlett Packard) PRESARIO 2200 LAPTOP or NOTEBOOK or whatever you call it. It has everything that you could ever want on a lap top including expandable memory, wireless connection, etc. & etc. and WHAT A DEAL I GOT!

When I eventually got around to starting to download the programs that came with this, turns out that the computer is NOT coming on!

I took it to the store I SHOULD have gone to in the first place and that was COMPUSA. They weren't sure why it wasn't working but it is going to coast me a MINIMUM of $1.51 to find out and for them to fix it PLUS PARTS!

I THINK RADIO SHACK SOLD ME SOME JUNK. IT CAME ON WHEN THEY TURNED IT ON IN THE STORE but the guy who sold it to me was very anxious to get me out of the store.

Yesterday, 10 Apr 2006, when I took the computer back to the original Radio Shack store where I bought it from, I heard Gangsta Rap with the usual profane words blaring with a huge bass thumper sound from the Radio Shack and NOBODY wanted to help me at all! They tried to sell me an adapter for $89.00 which would not have worked. They just wanted me to GO AWAY and "take your stupid headaches someplace somewhere else."

No attempt to help me.

To make matters worse, the receipt had faded making it difficult to read.

Like most other things in Austin, Texas, you have to watch out or RADIO SHACK at HIGHLAND MALL will RIP YOU OFF!

I am out nearly $1,000 on what I thought was a NEW computer only it turns out that it was a refurbished one and apparently not very well done. I have NO idea how much I am going to be out on parts.

THIS IS YOUR WARNING TO BE VERY,VERY CAREFUL IF YOU SHOP AT THE RADIO SHACK STORE upstairs in HIGHLAND MALL in AUSTIN, TX!!!!!

They don't lift a finger to help customers --well, actually they do but it is the WRONG finger...

I also called Hewlett-Packard but they wouldn't help either! Their attitude was that I had bought junk ha ha ha ha ha.

I told them I was going to post their response on the RIP -OFF REPORT which is read by thousands of people and the guy was still laughing when he hung up!

Radio Shack Rip-Off --Round Two

I ended up selling my beautiful HP Computer to Star PC in Austin,Texas for JUNK PARTS! DO I HATE RADIO SHACK???? YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT! The tech who looked at it at another computer store which I will not name here said it looked like someone had been looking at something they weren't supposed to have been looking at and tried to delete something from the hard drive and may have learned that nothing is really deleted from the hard drive, he may have shorted it out and burned it up to keep the FEDS from finding out what he was looking at. If these guys really are looking at unauthorized XXX photos of kids or who knows what something needs to be done. IF they are stealing computers from Radio Shack and substituting their personal, messed up ones from home with forbidden images on them then WHAT ABOUT THE POOR CUSTOMER who gets stuck with what they think are new computers and have no clue that the pervs have loaded up the hard drives with YOU KNOW WHAT??? There is apparently nobody at Radio Shack who cares about this potential problem so that means the buyer had better beware --unless you are a computer expert and can read that hard drive BEFORE you spend yout money!!!!!! And there is the problem of the DELIBERATELY FADING INK on the cash register receipt that starts to fade when you take it out of the package and expose it to light of any kind. PROVE YOU BOUGHT IT HERE, HEH HEH HEH . So THAT is what happened when I tried to buy a computer from Radio Shack in Highland Mall in Austin,Texas from a bunch of lying, thieving thugs who preferred GANGSTA RAP music and apparently the lifestyle that goes with it... No telling what else you might be able to buy there. ASSUMING YOU ARE STUPID ENOUGH TO SHOP THERE! That place is located in one of the highest crime areas in the city of Austin and people are afraid to shop there. Gang fights are not at all uncommon there and it is a battlefield for ALL ethnicities.

After seeing all of the complaints that have been filed against Radio Shack on the Rip Off Report, I wish like everything that I had NEVER set foot in their store. I too was ripped off by the sorry people at so I had to take my complaint to the Attorney General of Texas after they ripped me off with a Compaq Presario 2200 too for nearly $1,000. I JUST FILED IT TODAY! I went to Compusa too to see if they would repair it and their repairperson at Compusa is not sure it can be repaired for under $1,000! So I have not the slightest idea what to do except to file with the Austin District Attorney for Fraud and/or Theft. I paid money for what was represented to me as a new computer NOT a piece of junk that only looks like a computer! WARNING! DO NOT SHOP AT THE RDIO SHACK IN HIGHLAND MALL IN AUSTIN,TEXAS! ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE AN OLDER FEMALE PERSON. YOU ARE A VICTIM TO THEM. A VICTIM TO BE RIPPED OFF!!!! DO NOT SHOP HERE! I am contemplaing theft and fraud charges now against them with the Travis County District Attorney. COMPAQ--HEWLITT-PACKARD was apparently illegally dumping JUNK COMPUTERS on the market so that persons who were not up on the latest SCAMS would be RIPPED OFF! I am going to go after BOTH companies! On behalf of senior citizens, women and other non-tech consumers everywhere! There was a rebate on this piece of junk too but I didn't get because I think somebody at Radio Shack KEPT IT!
