COMPLAINT

We ordered a reverse osmosis unit from Home Depot for my mother's home and Home Depot contracted Quality Home Services to do the install. We bought an GE RO unit and two days later Allen from Quality Home Services arrived to the install. The entire time he was a the house, he was trying to get us to buy the Rain Soft unit (which is $400 more) and telling me how the GE unit is so bad and worthless. We declined to upgrade to the Rain Soft unit and he put in the GE unit shortly thereafter. About a month goes by and my mother is calling to me the water still has the white powdery stuff on the tea pot and appears unchanged despite using the RO unit. We called Quality Home Services to come back out and the next day Mark (Droman?) (manager) calls me back to tell me that their would be a charge of $150 to come back out to take a look at the original install. I asked him what if the unit was installed improperly and he said "look are you sure you want us to come out again, because we have to charge you no matter what." He didn't care whether if his technicians had mis-installed the unit originally, he just wanted to make sure that they would get paid again if they have to fix a problem that they caused.

Anyway, we said yes because this is the only company Home Depot contracts in our region of San Jose and Allen came back out the next day. Allen proceeds to test the hardness of the normal water facet and then the RO spout and both came at the same hardness. He proceeds to open the GE unit up only to find the filter slot has no filter in it. He then says "you told me that there was a backup filter and that I didn't need to check if a filter was already in the unit, when I did the install originally." Since when is the customer suppose to be the technician in the install process is beyond me, because I would have no clue what and where is filer is suppose to be placed. He tried to blame me and my mother for not telling him to put in the filter originally. We get into a "you said, I said," argument and Allen storms off and just leaves without putting the unit back together. I call back Home Depot and they patch in the manager Mark again, and this guy is even worse then Allen. Denying that they needed to take responsibility and refused to send someone else to my mother's home to fix the RO unit.

So I filmed the entire ordeal on my phone as proof for legal recourse, but more importantly the general public needs to know how terrible a company Quality Home Services really is. For a great company like Home Depot to use just one service provider as bad as this really outs the customers back against the wall.

We are trying to find a local plumber to fix the problem now.

Sincerely,

Angry Customer

We at Quality Home Services are of course always very concerned if a family is not happy with one of our products or services. We also understand that mistakes can and will happen and when they do it is important to acknowledge and address these concerns quickly. However in this particular case I feel the need to share our side of the story as there are many discrepancies in Mr. Tao's comments.

First Mr. Tao purchased an over the counter reverse osmosis system from Home Depot. It was not purchased from us. When he could not install it he called Home Depot and asked a representative who they would recommend to install it for him. Quality Home Services is and has been an authorized service provider for Home Depot for many years so we were recommended. We dispatched a technician to the Tao residence on December 20th, 2017 to install the reverse osmosis system that he had purchased from Home Depot. Upon arrival the tech found the reverse osmosis and removed it from the box. Inside the box was a membrane filter. When our technician removed it from the box Mr. Tao said that it was an extra filter that his system came with so our technician handed it to Mr. Tao. The installation took approximately an hour and a half to complete and was uneventful. Mr. Tao was charged $125.00. At no time did the technician say that the GE reverse osmosis product was bad or worthless.

On January 30th, 2018 our office received a call from Mr. Tao and he stated that his reverse osmosis system was not working and wanted to schedule a service call to have it checked. We dispatched the same technician out to the home that had installed his reverse osmosis. The system was checked for leaks and if the water was turned on and on the surface all seemed normal. When the technician opened the canister to examine the housings and filters he found that there was no membrane filter installed. Our technician explained that this was why the water was not being filtered and asked Mr. Tao where the membrane was that he gave him the day of the original install and he would install it to resolve the issue.

At this point Mr. Tao became extremely upset and verbally abusive to our technician. He then asked our technician to leave before he called 911 to have the police sent out. Our technician packed up and called dispatch to explain what happened. After interviewing our dispatcher he confirmed that he heard Mr. Tao being very abusive and rude to our technician. At this point in the interest of our employees safety we feel we can no longer send any of our employees to the Tao Residence. We will be refunding Mr. Tao $125.00 for the original service call and will no longer be servicing this account.

We wish Mr. Tao as well as the next company he calls, the best of luck. We appreciate and are grateful for this forum where our customers have an opportunity to post about their interactions with our company and even when it is not a positive review it is an opportunity for us to learn from and grow. I am extremely proud that we have many positive reviews from the families we serve.
