Providian National Bank Providian cancels my account for for events that have not taken place victimized many consumers Arlington Texas
On September 3, 2002 Providian wrote a letter to me and a large number of other customers closing their accounts. The stated reason for closure was: " You have one or more credit accounts that is/are currently delinquent, or show a major derogatory event(such as having been charged off or at least 60 days past due) within the past six months" This simply is not true!!! Nothing like this is on my credit report....no write offs or delinquencies in the past six months or past six years.
I have been a customer for four years and pay my bill often for the full balance or a large amount. In fact, I just made a payment of $500.00 on August 21.
When I called the 800 number, included with the letter, the first thing they asked me was if this was in reference to the September 3 letter. The operator asked this before getting my name and account information. When I asked him if a large number of customers got this letter, he would not tell me at first and in fact said no. But when confronted with the fact that he referenced the September 3 letter without knowing who I was he finally said yes and stopped the cover up.
The operator and his supervisor had no information about the situation. They claimed they had no access to my account data and could not tell me what specific item on my credit caused the cancellation. They refered me to the customer service number on the back of my credit card and when I called that number essentially the same thing happened. Although the operator could access my account history, she knew nothing about the reason for cancellation.
This is the absolute worst customer service situation I have ever encountered. Someone with Providian knows why my account was closed, but they are not available. This is outrageous!!!!
