I have been an Insurance Agent for 40 years.  I have sold Progressive Auto Insurance to my clients, and I even bought policies for myself, for my cars and RV.  This is what they did to me, on the policy that I wrote for myself:  My RV was parked when Hurricane Irma hit us here in Florida.  The wind tore off my awning, blew off my roof vents, antennas and more.  The winds were so strong, that it even blew open my side door.  My RV has automatic steps, which lower anytime the side door is opened.  So, the wind blew open the door, damaged my screen door, and as that happened, the steps were automatically lowered. 

A fallen tree blew against my steps, and lodged underneath them, severly damaging them.  The Progressive Adjuster agreed that the wind blew the door open, and agreed the pay for damage to my screen door.  However, they refused to pay for the steps which were damaged at the same time!  They told me that they believe that the steps were struck during some sort of "collision".  I told them that would be impossible ... the steps automatically raise up and tuck away when driving.  They were designed that way, so a "collision" could not even occur to the steps when driving.  In my opinion, Progressive is guilty of "bad faith". 

As a result, I can no longer recommend them, nor sell their policies to any of my clients ever again.  "Flos'" commercials are cute and funny, but that is not what Insurance is for ... Insurance is designed to protect people against what just happened to me.  If Progressive treats an Insurance Agent who sells and even buys policies from them, how do you think they will treat you??? If you are with Progressive now, I strongly suggest that you reconsider, before they do the same thing to you.

Thank you for your update, but why you didn't answer the real question. Have you EVER had any client come to you and tell you that their claim was denied from a policy you sold them?

The answer just based on the odds over 40 years is probably yes, and probably more than once. So when you did hear this from others did you refuse to stop selling that companies insurance policy as well or did you just tell your client how to appeal the claim?

Again if by chance you have never had a client have a claim deined you need to be shouting that from the nearest rooftop and putting that on every piece of your marketing literature as that puts you as a 1 in a million agent.

When it comes to your claim even though you apparently know the process and next steps you could take, you figure as an "agent" you have special privledges and should be treated differently.  As nothing in your post indicates you have done anything other than accept the denial of an adjuster without going any farther.

Thanks for enlightening me, regarding how the claims process works.  Also, thanks for your suggestion that I contact the DOI.  I had no idea ... really???

Based on  how you wrote this post, you are telling us that in the 40 years of selling insurance you never once had a single client come back to you and tell you that one of the companies you sold a policy for denied their claim.  Because if that was not the case as an agent who cares for their clients you would do what you did here once you found out they refused a claim, and that is to refuse to sell any more of that companies policies.  Right?

Or is this just a case that it only really matters when it happens to you?  As you could name any insurance policy you sell and within 30 seconds could point you to dozens if not hundreds of reports of that company not paying on claims.

Look don't get me wrong, I am not saying that they were right in denying your claim.  I am saying that as an agent you should know that insurance adjusters work or the insurance company, NOT the policy holder. Their job is to pay the least amount they can to settle the claim. So yes unfortunately this means that as a policy holder you need to sometimes work a bit harder to get them to pay the entire claim.  But this is not uniqe to this insurance company.

As for them doing this to an "agent", again really?  You really think that you are anything more than a number to them.  You sell a policy, they send you a comission.  Do you think you are somehow entitled to additional benefits because you sell a few policies for them?  Again, do you really think any Insurance company is better?

Good Luck and hopefully you can get them to pay that claim.  If not you can take the same action us "regular" folk take in cases like this.  File a complaint with your State's Insurance agency and if that doesn't work file a suit against them.
