I also was very excited to hear that my poem would be published. So, I sent off my 80.00 to see/own a book that had my wonderful poem in it. I also received numerous mailings and notices via e-mail of all the different events I was "chosen" to attend, even though they each cost anywhere from $500-$1000 just for the tickets, not to mention accomidations and airfare.

Then, it was if I just sent in my fee, I could join the international poets society and I would get my silver bowl and my little medal w/o attending the actual functions. Still waiting for my book. More mailings. Now, they want me approve my poem to be on their annually released cd. Still waiting for my book, so I decide not to pay for the cd. Guess what...no more mailings.

They told us that the books would be published in the fall. Well, it's the middle of November. Almost winter. We were promised the books before the public had a chance to purchase them. I checked the website, the book is still listed as unpublished.

I called them... after being on hold for and transferred for almost an hour, they hung up. At this point, making myself "right" with being scammed, I might as well bend over and deal with it seems to be my only option.

A Well-Known Scam

#2Consumer Suggestion

Fri, January 31, 2003

This actually a well-known and well-documented scam; there is plenty of material available about it, for those who wish to do a little research before sending money to organizations like this. A suggestion: rather than complain after you're hoodwinked, do a little research before putting yourself in the position of being hoodwinked. Falling for this particular scam is, sorry to say, entirely the fault of the person who falls for it. Anyone who did even a moment's research would know to stay well away.
