Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
My name is Michael Purcell and I enjoy writing poetry, Recently I entered a contest and was informed that I was a semi-finalist, also that my work was so good that it was going to be published...well was I excited. Just before going to the phone to tell everyone I know of my success, I decided to look up Poetry.com the company on the Internet to see just how legit they were.....well, well, well but what do I see but your notice of a rip-off! Thank you very much, you have saved me money and embarrassment. Mike

Geez Terry, you don't have to be so obnoxious towards others here. This person's personal life is her business and the comments you're making are out of line. Getting your poetry in poetry.com's books is not 'publishing.' It's scamming people into purchasing their books. Poetry.com is not a publishing company, and generally when they accept your poem for publishing, they don't print it in their book unless you buy the book. Poetry.com is a scam, and not a legitimate publishing company. People should stay away from it and go to legitimate publishing companies and not give any money to poetry.com. Also, the books are not nice, they're cheap and unprofessional. Poetry.com is a scam.

I got on your case for two reasons; I can't stand it when "men," and I use that term loosely in the case of your husband, let their ladies fight their battles. If he wants to stick up for this company, let him. However, there is something disengenuous in your story, it doesn't wash. I think you are a shill (look it up). Next, you are a citizen of the Commonwealth of Virgin-oia, and evidently under the mistaken impression that your sex life is your own business, particularly in the area discussed. Better read up on it before the sex police bust in... sodomy (look it up) is against the law in you state (which includes BJs). Here is another thing: if convicted you would be a sex criminal! Stick that in your pipe and smoke it (not only NOT against the law in Virginia, but also encouraged).

Terry, My husband was NEVER required to buy the CD's, books or tapes. None of them period. He did receive notices about the so called conventions, however the costs were so outragous that he refused to even go. He said last evening that if there was really an award for him, that they should just send it to him, not require him to attend an expense convention that probably did not exist. Yes, he has published many poems with this company and with other companies as well. I will post later the other companies that do not require you to attend "conventions" to receive awards should you win them. We both agree that the "convention" bit is fraud but as to the publishing we do not. It is NOT a requirement to buy the items that your poem is being published in to have it published. One of his very good friends also had his poem published in the international book that we did not buy. His friend bought the book and low and behold their was my husband's poem. So your poem is published whether or not you buy the items they suggest to you when they notify you that your poem is being published. As to your other comment, keep your mind out of the gutter. My husband's and my personal life is just that PERSONAL!

First, what was it that your husband has NEVER been required to do by the books, tapes or CD's? Next, what was it your husband was on when he bought books in which contained the poems that he had written? You see the confusion you are creating? Now, go give you husband a BJ, because that's all your head is good for. ...and please leave the writing to him.

My husband has been published by Poetry.com many times

My husband has been published many times by Poetry.com and has NEVER been required to by the books, tapes or CD's. He has on occasion bought on or two books that he had multiple poems published and just recently he had two go international. We did not buy that book but if he has anymore go internationally we might buy the book. We look at the book as a keepsake of the hard work that he has put into his writing. They are actually beautiful books. We have never once been scammed by this company. He submits his poems on time and that is it. If it published great, if not that is fine also. You do not need to buy the book if your poem is published.

I also recieved a letter telling me that I was a Semi-Finalist and my poem would be published in the books. This was last year and in the letter when it said you are eligib to go to the International Poetry thing I was very excited. So i talked my mom into taking me there and when we got there all there was, was a gym with a small group of people asking you for 150$ to get into the "Contest!" I was sooo mad and we also wasted our money cuz it was in Pennsylvania. So people if you want to try to win something off hte interent don't bother cuz its all a scam none of what they say is true!

It's good to know that someone is out there paying attention to "ripoff" companies, and helping out others in order to know the truth about such crazyness. I only entered 2 contests and was informed as well as Michael Purcell, that I was a semifinalist. The two letters that i received even stated that, my work was too good that they wanted my permission to publish it in one of there poetry books. In the other letter it stated that they wanted my permission to promote my good works on a cd and tape cassette, even had the nerve to state that I could purchase it for only $79.00,(thats not even including shipping and handeling.) I thank God that I didn't buy into that nonsense eventhough, I fell for the entering the contest. Now my 2 poems are posted on there website, that I now want removed because these people are liars, theives, as well as deceivers. I want nothing to do with the company I.L.P. as well as poetry.com. bonafide01
