Long story short: I was robbed at the AYCE buffet.

Long Story: I entered the Pizza Hut at about 12:35 and stood in line for about 5 minutes with other people. The server comes to all of us and says there are two free tables if we'd like to help ourselves to the buffet and seat ourselves. We all thought this was nice, and proceeded to do so. I noticed a lack of product on their pizza bar, so I grabbed a slice of pizza (about 1/12 of a medium, that's how small they were cutting it), some salad, and a few breadsticks, mainly waiting for some more pizza to arrive on the bar.

I sat down and server approached to take my drink order and give me silverware. After getting my drink, I decided to get more pizza when I heard the same server quietly tell a couple at the bar that "This is all the pizza we're going to have, so get what you can before it's all gone." First off, this offended me that she would tell the couple about this and not tell me (she had just given me a drink a minute earlier), and secondly, she didn't even acknowledge that I had the same information as the couple (meaning, she didn't even ask me if I heard her or if I knew that this was all the pizza).

Looking at what was left at the bar, it consisted of about 1 medium pizza for a restaurant of about 15 people. I grabbed a slice of some dry pepperoni, more salad and killed my drink before heading out. But, and these are my mistakes, I have worked food service several times before and the server didn't look to bright, so I went ahead and gave her a dollar tip out of pity. Another mistake, I paid for my meal. The cashier did the required: "Did you enjoy your meal.."-bit and I grunted a response when I should have responded with a: "No, I didn't. Why? Because you don't have listed anywhere (except, and this is cute, on the little cards that sit on top the cheese and pepper holders at each table in little tiny print.) when the Lunch Buffet ends. If your server had in the first place let us KNOW this was all the pizza we would be getting before she sent us off to the buffet, I would have driven another 4 minutes to a Godfather's Pizza buffet that costs less, has better pizza, and has in clear print on their menu that their buffet ends at 2pm."

Not to sound mean here, but what the hell is the deal with a buffet that ends at 1? 9/10ths of the people I work with don't get lunch break until times past noon, and all other locations in our region with lunch specials continue them to at least 1:30 and as late as 3:00...

In the time I've worked for Pizza Hut, it's only been in the one store here in my hometown. It's all I have known of one really. But our buffet (we're franchised) runs from 11 to 2 daily. Though most of the other stores in my district don't have a daily buffet. Some do end earlier, as best I know none of them end later. (I believe all of them pretty well have a Friday buffet.)

It's starting and stopping times are listed on signage in front of our store, as well as in the menu's.

But I must agree with the original complaint. I would be appauled if the girl didn't tell me the exact same thing that she had just told other customers. To me it is very disrespectful, and I quite frankly being myself would have not left a tip, and probably would have mentioned it at the counter. If not there, definetly with a phone call later.

I work for pizza hut. Some facts in this complaint were wrong.

*pizza hut's buffet goes from 11:30 - 1:30.

*Signs are posted at the very front of the restuarant saying this as you walk thru the door. They are also signs at each end of the buffet, and not in fine print.

If you felt ripped off due to bad service, or for any reason at all you should have let someone know. The problem would have been resolved i'm sure.

In fairness, I don't work at the specific Pizza Hut wich this report was based on. However I do work for PIzza Hut and while i am sorry to hear this persons dining experience went so poorly , i dont think this by far to be the general expereince.

I am a server and work during the lunch buffet. Our AYCE lunch buffet runs from 11:30 to 1:30pm, not 1:pm as stated. If customers come thru the doors at 1:30pm and want the buffet, we let them know it has ended and no more pizzas will be brought out. (Some still opt for finishing up the buffet.)

However, if someone comes in 15 mins before the lunch buffet is scheduled to end (as the person in this report stated) it is up to the server to let the cooks know this so more pizzas can be made for the buffet. IOW, more pizzas are brought out.

The pizza buffet is to be full at all times untill the last customer who orders buffet (before 1:30pm) has left. This usually makes for alot of left over pizzas, but they in turn are given to the homeless. (so not wasted)

It sounds to me like the problem with this persons experience were unfortunately the fault of the server. From not seating the guest , to not letting the cooks know more pizzas were needed, to not changing the pizzas (they said the peperoni was dry, wich sounds like it had been sitting there awhile). Maybe she was new? Or maybe management simply didnt know there was problem b/c no one complained. ?

We ask " did you enjoy your meal?" when the customer is leaving for a very good reason.... because we want to know if there is anything we can do to make your experience better. We want to know if there was a problem so it can be fixed. Unfortunately, if you say "everything was fine" when indeed it wasnt... the problem likely will not be corrected.
