In May 2013, my wife and I helped our son purchase a used vehicle from Peruzzi Toyota in Hatfield, PA.  We went into the dealership to look at a 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue with 72,000 miles.  The intent was to purchase a used car that would get him through his upcoming 4 years of college, so we figured this car with low mileage would accomplish that.

When we went to look at the vehicle, it was leaking oil, for which they partly reduced the cost of the vehicle to $3000 from $3500, but were still asking us to pay $500 for the fix.  Because the car had low mileage, we agreed to purchase the vehicle and have the work done to fix the issue.  When I went to look at the car after it was fixed, it was still leaking oil.  Peruzzi begrudgingly fixed what turned out to be a 3rd gasket.  After this fix, we finally brought the vehicle home.  I had to barter with the sales manager for a 1 week warranty to make sure the car did not leak oil after we took it home.  I found pieces of old gasket all around the bottom of the engine, as their rush to get this done was very sloppy.

A week or so later, the car had a flat tire, which turned out to be a dry-rotted valve stem, and when looking at the other tires I found that all 4 tires had dry, cracked value stems.  We then had to put 4 new tires on the car because of this. The tires themselves were inspection passable, but not salvagable.  Another $500 spent on the car that we didn't expect at the time.

Four to five weeks later my son went to work one morning and I got a call a couple of minutes later saying that the car stopped and he couldn't get it re-started.  I tested the battery, which was good.  We had the car towed to a locally respected shop where it was determined that the engine seized, which was odd because the oil pan was full.  We've since had a 2nd opinion on the diagnosis, where it was confirmed that it seized.

We contacted Peruzzi with the details and we asked for their cooperation with some sort of restitution.  My wife and I have purchased multiple new vehicles from Peruzzi Toyota, one being a 2013 Corolla, only a week after purchasing this used vehicle.  We've also referred other friends and family to Peruzzi, so they've greatly profitted from our patronige.  When/If they returned our calls, in the end all they would do is agree to give us less than what we asked, which was for half of the purchase price plus the new tires we had to put on.  We asked for $2000 returned to us, which would've been my son's portion of the purchase.  Peruzzi's FINAL deal for us was to give us $1750 toward an up-sell of another over-priced used vehicle with 25,000 more miles than on the 1st car.  They've not contact us since.

I felt that the arrogance and disloyalty Peruzzi has shown repeat customers like us warranted an email to your website.  We've since heard of other used car stories regarding Peruzzi Toyota from people who say that they've also had a bad experience with this dealership.  My nephew tows cars locally and told me that a large percentage of his tows are Peruzzi used cars.  Bottom line is they are a sleazy dealership and have lost us, our circle of family and friends, and anyone else I hear of looking for a new or used automobile. We've since written Peruzzi's president an email detailing our stuggles there.  We've not gotten a response to date.
