Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

I am the second owner of a 1974 porsche 914. My brother was the initial owner and this car was his pride and joy. My brother found patrick motorsports in Arizona. The car was shipped from Ca for a complete rotisserie restore and 3.8 6 cylinder conversion. I have every single receipt for the parts and labor that was charged for the restore. 150;000.00. My brother passed away and I inheried the car. My brother was a great guy but not that mechanicly inclined.

I was the wrench of the family and worked for several racing teams in the past. After all the excessive B.S. and the extra months it took to complete the car. My brother got it back. The first oil change the 30 plus thousand dollar motor had metal shavings in the oil. The excuse was a tight rod bearing. This tells me no clearences were checked on mock up. Did I mention it costs 1100.00 to ship it back everytime,? So the engine was repaired. Then there was a wiring problem. Shipped back again. For how much?

I have to say the car looked beautiful. The painter there is very good. First off a restore should have new wiring and it should be trick. They stuffed the old wiring back in the car and it looks like s**t. Car was returned. Then the bolts for the drivers door turned freely and the door sagged destroying the paint at the bottom of the door snd side panel. My brother was disgusted with the car and it sat in his garage until he died. Then I got the car. I fired it up and put it into gear and the main shifting rod dropped onto the pavement. Also smelled gas.

Found out his bitchen fuel cell ,,,,,(a glorified old tank painted ) was spewing fuel. The car shows 2000 miles on the odometer. Oh did i mention the tach didnt work either? I repaired all that. Then finally thought i could drive it. Lo and behold the tranny has a problem in third gear on there bitchen 915 wevo conversion. Oh checked the throttle body and it would only open a quarter of the way. Also throttle spring was held in by a tie wrap. Pro,s. This car wss done in 2009.

The shift linkage had worn parts and was very sloppy so i reached out and called patrick motorsports and told them what car it was. I asked for two simple parts. A nylon bushing and the shift selector gasket because why? The tranny was leaking. Never heard from them again. I always wondered why they never installed seat belts. My brother had recaro seats put in and wanted simpson safety belts. I went thru the receipts. Not only did he pay for the belts he never got but theres also a labor charge for installing them. The last time my brother got the car back he noticed the car not handleing or accellerating right. Started looking at the car and and they swspped his new parts for older ones in the shop. I cant wait to tear the motor down. If all the aftermarket parts arent in the engine s**t will hit the fan. I know i cant do anything legally but please just save your money. They suck.

ENGINE BUILDING PROBLEMS

#2UPDATE EX-employee responds

Mon, August 27, 2018

i used to work for PATRICK MOTORSPORTS when they were in the old buildings as the manager of the body and paint department but in reality i was the only one there doing all the finish body and paint work.  there was NO SPRAY BOOTH there.

i worked under the worst conditions when it came to painting,  overspray coving my face, eyes, it was dangerous and toxic.  i walked out after 2 years of being promised that Jim was looking for another locatioon.  there was another bare metal chassis ready for etch sealer and primer and i refused to put myself into another toxic situation.  in addition we were doing a copy of the Mark Donahue Porsche that he won the IROC Series in.  I went to Penske's Museum and looked at the origanal car and realized the the quarter panels were not accurate.  Jim had purchased the car from one of the techs who worked there and jacked up the price when he sold it to the new owner, i think his name was Andrade.

i walked out on the job both because of the facility and because i refused to work on a car that wasn't going to meet the owners expectations.  Jim challanged my ability to collect unemployment.  i had missed the deadline to file my grievances by one day of the OSHA whistleblowers iniative so i was deniad unimployment benefits.  i was told later on by the OSHA manager that was handling my case that Patrick was fined $10,000 and given an order to cease painting in the building but i went back by the shop several times and found that they were still using the facility to refinish vehicles.  i believe i was lied to and that they were never fined.

i can also state that when i worked there we were building a car for the John Frank Family, a recreation of the Jagermeister 914/6 that Sr. had sponsered.  Jim had that car on the dyno for hours trying to get it to run right and it never did.  they trailered the car to a track (i think it was in NY) and the engine blew up during the first few laps.  i wasn't there, i heard about it through the driver of the trailer, and i heard from the front staff that the engine had to be rebuilt and that this wasn't the first time.

i will say that i had nothing to do with the mechanics of the cars other than fitament to the chassis, and i will note that i was told that everything i worked on had an open ticket meaning that the customer was charged for time and material.  i have hundreds of pictures of every procedure i performed on every car along with the hours and materials i used. it took me approxiametly 1000 hrs. to bring a chassis and body parts from rough in metal to finished.

i will also state i never dealt with customers, in fact i only met 1 during my time there. all i know is that 2 or 3 of the cars i did while there won Best Of Show in PCA Shows both in Az and in Cali.  there's no doubt that Jim had techs that built great looking cars, whether they perform well or not, i don't know.

i think that Jim's business is geared more toward knowledgeable customers with large wallets.  if you go in there just wanting something simple to be fixed, he'll look over the whole car and tell you what else needs to be addressed.  jim is a perfectionist like that, and it's the way he's wired.

i find it hard to believe that the car in question was shortcutted, that's not his style, when i was there he overlooked everything and has cameras that record everything and worksheets that track the car through all it's stages.  if there's something you feel was missed, i'm sure there's a video that will come in handy if you wind up in court.  good luck.
