After literally hours and hours of online time, copying and recording numbers, sending e-mail, mailing in rebate forms, responding to e-mail and other requirements related to obtaining three simple rebates, I can say with confidence:

TigerDirect and OnRebate Inc. use a deliberately contrived and confusing system to discourage the redemption of rebates. In addition, even when rebates are approved, the time period for receiving them gives the companies the benefit of holding the funds for 8 to 10 weeks. For a $100 rebate being used by thousands of customers, that can mean hundreds or thousands of extra dollars in interest income for the companies. A genuine ripoff and one which the companies cannot fail to be aware of.

Perhaps the companies cover their asses with obfuscating legalese in their "service agreements", but that does not excuse their deliberate action to discourage the redemption of rebates.

I'm willing to join in any legal action to stop this deceptive practice, of which I've only become aware in the recent purchase of a 19-inch Hann-G LCD Monitor for which TigerDirect charged me $268.45, including $63.71 for included software in which I was not interested, with the promise of $70 rebate on the monitor and rebates of $20 and $30 on the Computer Associates Internet Security Suite, for which I have no use.

Dear customer, In our correspondence you inquired about 2 tracking numbers only: -BDC7BCGNFUANXWEF- $30.00 rebate on the software -LLF3ZJ6XBGJCSDVF- $70.00 rebate on the LCD Monitor Both rebates were approved as well as the $20.00 bonus rebate for the software. Please note that you did not provide a tracking number for this additional $20.00 rebate but we proceeded to approve it as well to ensure your satisfaction. Should you have further questions please contact [email protected] or [email protected]

I'm still trying to obtain the $120 in promised rebates on the purchase of the Hanns-G 19-inch LCD monitor and the unwanted software which came with it from TigerDirect/OnRebates. Does anyone else on this site want to start legal action against this obvious fraud? The obfuscation and outright false claims continue to pile up. Ms. Nadina Urdaneta appended a response to my original complaint. Here is some of the correspondence between the two of us since: (Please note the e-mail immediately following is my latest message to OnRebate. To read the messages in chronological order from the beginning, scroll down to the bottom and read from last to first.) My dear Ms. Urdaneta, I have already mailed you the information -- rebate form, proof of purchase and barcode -- to obtain the $30 rebate. Since they are in the mail, I cannot make copies of them to send you for the $20 rebate. I have no fax machine nor access to a free one. You already have enough proof that I purchased the Hanns-G 19-inch monitor and the Computer Associates software. The TigerDirect invoice clearly shows that my credit card was charged and the account PAID IN FULL by my Visa card. I'm not lying. I'm not trying to fool anybody. I can assure you that what your eyes behold on the TigerDirect website under My Account is the absolute honest truth and I can surely find someone at Visa to swear to you on a stack of Bibles that my card was debited for the full amount of $268.45. That includes $82.17 for the Computer Associates Internet Security software which I did not want, so I mailed it to you in the package with all the other corroborating evidence to obtain my $120 in rebates. Let me make this clear: I am saving all of our correspondence for possible use in a legal action against you personally, OnRebates.com, TigerDirect, Hanns-G and Computer Associates and the associated billionaires who feed off of these misleading, fraudulent, unethical and illegal rebate offers. If this activity is not stopped and my rebates sent to me as promised, I will have my attorneys bring action in the Miami, FL jurisdiction. I would like for you to answer this one question: Do you personally think the requirements for obtaining rebates through OnRebates.com are ethical and legal? Be careful how you respond. I want my rebates. I want them now. John Unfortunately we will need the rest of the documents. If you do not have access to a fax machine then you may mail it to my attn at: PO BOX 440588 Miami Fl 33144-0588 Attn Nadina. I promise I will take care of your rebates but I do need all thedocumentation (rebate form, proof of purchase and barcode) to watch my ownback. I hope you understand. If you have further questions please reply. Itcosts several dollars for me to fax the materials you asked for at a commercial faxing facility. If I do that and use my time at, say, the minimum wage rate that many of my friends work for, ($5.35 per hour), it would cost me nearly $20 to apply for the $20 rebate. May I please beg you to accept as proof of my purchase the invoice and rebate form copies that I have pasted into this e-mail. I can assure you they are legitimate. Do you know how much it would cost to create a fake invoice and rebate form? I dare say the price to me would be well above the $20 which I would receive in a rebate. Please expedite my rebates -- a $70 rebate on the Hanns-G 19 inch computermonitor and $30 and $20 rebates on Computer Associates Internet Security Suite software? I need the money. A month is long enough for this simple transaction. If you had to wait for your paycheck from OnRebate for 8 to 10 weeks, what would your reaction be? It's the same principle...you and others at OnRebate have the means to confirm my purchase and my payment with my credit card in minutes, not hours, or days, or weeks, or months, or, please GOD, NOT YEARS! > Ms. Urdaneta, I beg you. Have mercy. I'm a poor man trying to get along on Social Security. I know $120 means nothing to you high-pay service personnel at OnRebates and your superiors, who make millions by fleecing innocent customers. But it means a lot to me. > > John > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "nadina urdaneta" > To: "'John'" > Sent: Thursday, July 27, 2006 1:18 PM > Subject: RE: OnRebate Status Change [REF:BDC7BCGNFUANXWEF] > >The rebate has been approved on 07/14/06 (let me know if you need further assistance with this) Your check will be mailed in 6-8 weeks from the acceptance date in theamount of $30.00 >> >> Nadina Urdaneta >> Customer Service - Advocate >> [email protected] >> 1-888-426-9467 (Fax) >> >> >> -----Original Message----- >> From: John >> Sent: Tuesday, July 25, 2006 12:33 AM >> To: nadina urdaneta >> Subject: Re: OnRebate Status Change [REF:BDC7BCGNFUANXWEF] >> Dear Ms. Urdena, >> >> Unfortunately, I mailed by US Postal Service first class the information, supporting evidence and the Internet Security software to the address provided on the Rebate Form and marked it to your attention. I can't afford one. So I will have to mail by U.S. Postal Service the required items to obtain my $20 rebate for the Computer Associates software which was included with my purchase of a Hanns-G monitor from TigerDirect. >>> The items you requested are: 1 -- A signed rebate form. That will be included in my postal mailing. 2 -- A copy of Original Invoice. Enclosed with postal mailing. 3 -- Write Serial Number: I'm sorry but you will note from the enclosed software package with its complete contents, I cut the serial number off to send with my rebate form for the $30 offered by CA, TigerDirect and OnRebate. You may keep the software. I have no use for it. 4 -- Copy of UPC & Serial barcode label. See No. 3 -- the barcode label was sent for the $30 rebate. Now let me make clear that I expect to receive a total of $120.00 in rebates as promised by TigerDirect when I ordered the Hanns-G monitor. I want the rebate in a timely fashion. If I can get the monitor and software within a few days by US Postal Service, surely you can get me a check in less than 8 to 10 weeks. >>> If I took the time to add up the cost to me for pursuing the $120 in rebates, the amount would no doubt exceed the total of the rebate. It's perfectly absurd. OnRebate is making money for providing no service whatever except to shuffle numbers around and discourage anyone from pursuing rebates. This should be stopped. I await my rebate check. I expect to have my $30 rebate in 8 to 10 weeks while your company has the benefit of that amount in your bank drawing interest. There is no reason I should not get the rebate. Both OnRebate and TigerDirect have all the information necessary to prove that I purchased the monitor that's sitting on my desk right now and that I paid an outrageous price so I could get the $120.00 rebate. If I don't get this rebate, I can assure you I will take legal action against you and against TigerDirect charging false advertising and fraud. There's not a judge in America who would not award me the rebate amount and all the legal expenses involved, plus some generous compensation for the mental and physical strain this has caused a 67-year-old retired newspaper editor with serious heart disease. If this goes much longer, the price of that legal action will go even higher for your company and TigerDirect. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. >>>>> John P.S. I just discovered that others have had the same difficulties getting rebates from TigerDirect and OnRebate.
