Officer Ryan Smith Automated phone call re: social security number and criminal action. Angel Camp California
Today my sister received a phone call from 'Officer Ryan Smith' at the Social Security Office. This call stated that she needed to return to the call to adress a criminal action related to her social security number. If she did not call back by the end of the day crininal proceedings would be started.
I called the Social Security Administration and asked about this call and they informed me that they never call regarding issues with social security numbers and that this was a scam call. I then called the number which was answered by a man with a middle easter accent and asked to speak with 'Officer Ryan Smith'.
I was told that he could not give out any information and when I stated that I hadn't ask for information but rather asked to speak with Officer Smith he became very hostile. I informed him that I has spoken with the SSA and that they advised that this was a scam call.
I let him know that the information left on my sister's phone was reported to the SSA and that I would also be calling the Missouri State Attorney's Office and the California State Attorney's Office to file scam complaints with them as well. Needless to say he hung up on me.
