Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

I do not have a fax machine in my home, so I went to OfficeMax to fax some documents.

It has been necessary to fax several documents to military institutions, banks, etc., because my son, who was in the Air Force, was killed in an accident three months ago, I was given (800) numbers to fax these documents that have been necessary.

OfficeMax said they consider 800 numbers to be local numbers, so they charge for any documents sent, even though the documents clearly state these are free fax lines. Their fees for faxing each page is $1.50. I was told by the manager that the receiving number does not charge, but OfficeMax charges for all faxed documents. Those are ridiculously exorbitant fees!

Do you honestly expect to go ANYWHERE and not have to pay for a service? You are ridiculous, not OfficeMax for charging for their services.  Do you think that fax machines run off of magic?  And I have news for you that may blow your mind...you don't get charged when you send a fax unless it is international! You pay for the phone line just like a regular phone line, and you do not get charged per call. Get over yourself, I dare you to drive all around town just to find out that everyone is going to charge for that SERVICE and probably more than $1.50 per page!

Thank you for your suggestions, and that is what I will do in the future. I did not expect any charge as I have faxed locally from this store before when I worked from home, where I used email almost exclusively, but had the occassional need to fax locally or by 800 numbers. That was why I was so surprised. I have faxed long distance before and always had my wallet out ready to pay and did, as it should be.

This was the first time I have ever complained about a business or service before. After this experience I read reviews from other people and their strong opinions were about the costs - that they were exorbinately high. I wasn't saying they have no right to charge that. Of course they do. Thank you for the response and suggestions, I will take your advice.

I was not, and am not, expecting or need anyone to pity my family or sympathize with me. My complaint has nothing to do with our loss. I was simply giving the background on why I do not understand why there is a charge.

In the past, I have been to this store and faxed locally or with a 800 number and was not charged. It has been a while, but that is what has happened in the past. That was one of the reasons I was so surprised and upset. I used to work from home and almost everything I did was done by email, but when there was the occassional need to fax, I went to the store. I never invested in a fax machine for that reason. When I did have to fax something that was not local, of course there was a charge and of course I paid for that.

I have read other complaints about OfficeMax for the same reason after this happened, and there are a lot of people with the same opinion. I have a right to complain if I choose. I have never before written a complaint about any company. This had NOTHING to do with our loss, and your saying I am mad at the world due to this couldn't be more wrong. One has nothing to do with the other.

I guess you felt you needed to go for an attack on me personally since you repeatedly railed at me about my son and expecting some kind of special consideration due to that. Again, that had nothing to do with this issue. You have a right to your opinion, and I have a right to mine. Get over yourself.

Sorry to hear about your son, but it doesnt change the fact that you DO NOT have a fax machine and you are going to a BUSINESS in order to have THEM send your fax. So what...Im betting YOU think that because your son died they should take pity on you and do it for free? It doesnt work that way. Let me educate you since its obvious that you have no idea what you are talking about. They are a business. They are in business to MAKE MONEY!! They cannot just take pity on you and give you a discount. Since it is THEIR fax line and Im 100% sure that their corporate monitors the faxes being sent out, this means that UNLESS they are sending a fax to their corporate offices, that every fax MUST have a matching sales ticket with it.

YOU made the choice to go there and use THEIR fax services. Kinda a b**** move to complain about it after they have done the work for you. Suck it up buttercup. There are MANY different BUSINESSES that offer fax services. YOU could have tried a copy shop. YOU could have tried a fedex or UPS store. But YOU didnt. YOU made the choice to use them. YOU are using THEIR equiptment to send YOUR faxes. This should be easy for you to understand. EVERY fax that they send for YOU is wear and tear on THEIR fax machine. Are you going to be a kind person and send them a new fax machine when theirs breaks down?? Yeah, I didnt think so. It costs what it costs. If you have a problem with the costs, go somewhere else. Bitching that you had to pay for them to send your faxes only goes to show you as a pity seeking individual. Yes, we understand you lost your son. But thats no reason to blast a legitimate company for doing business as usual. Yes, we understand you are still hurting and because of this you tend to lash out. All understandable.

But what you are doing IS technically against the law and if they wanted to they could sue you in civil court for your slanderous remarks. THEY did not rip you off. YOURE just mad because you lost someone special to you and are lashing out at ANYONE who upsets you. Next time shop around and dont be a j******. THEY did not charge you more then anyone else who wishes to fax a document.

Have someone else send the faxes or get your own machine.  Did you agree to the price beforehand?  If so, no Ripoff here.
