I purchased a new Cannon all-in-one laser printer/fax/copier from their store.  They sold me an extended "performance" agreeement at that time.

Sadyly the machine failed and I found out they don't repair or service the machine the warranty is a 3rd party serviced our of the country.  I had previously registered the machine and used my Office Depot customer card at the time of purchase.  They have the information and have verified that.

After a lot of back and forth including the mailing of the machines cartridge to them they said I would receive a store card with a credit for my purchase (instead of a repair).

3 months passed and they kept saying the same thing WAIT!  Now they want to start over with the original recept required and that recept was printed on thermo paper that faded after a few months.

This saga started in December 2014!  Still no card or printer.

I wouldn't recommend them to anyone!  At the very least tell them to keep their 3rd party service policy as it is worthless!

When I worked for office depot back in the late 90's we had a representative come and talk to us about the product protection plans. What we were told by the representative is that those plans were 100% profit for the store. I believe that is why many retailers push to sell them.

Second if anything does go wrong with the product, the customer would have to send the product back to the manufacturer first. At least to me there really is no point to buying the plans because most of the products sold will have some kind of manufacturer’s warranty on the product. Usually the details of such warranty are located on the side of the box. If not, then the manufacturers  website should have some information about any warranties they offer and what conditions apply.

So how do they keep their promise to the customer and have the plan still be 100% profit for the store? I do not know the answer to that question. Either people do not turn those plans in or the store does not keep their promise. Personally, I believe those plans to be a waste of money.
